Experience of a Lifetime Competition
Adam Massena of Preston/Reservoir Little Athletics Centre was the lucky winner of the ‘Experience of a Lifetime’ competition in which he and his family, along with some friends, were invited as VIP’s to the 2013 Qantas Melbourne World Challenge.
Adam and his friends not only had VIP access to the Fan Zone, but they received back stage passes to meet Olympians, Asafa Powell and Sally Pearson.
The prize also included 2 nights accommodation at the Sebel Hotel, transport to and from the track in a stretch hummer, a LAVic and McDonald’s show bag, and dinner and a magic show by Ronald McDonald.
When asked what the best part of his day was, “the whole lot” exclaimed Adam.
Royal Children’s Good Friday Appeal
On Friday, 29th March a small band of dedicated LAVic volunteers descended onto Etihad Stadium to prepare for the arrival of the masses as part of the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
Our Interactive site was again popular with children eager to complete our revamped site of a mini On Track circuit. Elite athlete, Kaila McKnight attended and ran alongside the many excited children in the races.
Our Mascots Vicky & Victor were swamped by the crowds, and their journey to the hospital brought many smiles to the children they visited while handing out show bags.
Our live cheque presentation with athletes from both the Casey (Most Money Raised) and Skye Valley (Most Money Raised per capita) Centres was certainly the highlight of the day. The $55,161.70 donated this year is the largest amount in the last decade, and every Centre that participated is to be congratulated on this achievement.
The Good Friday Appeal has been a highlight event in the LAVic calendar. In fact, LAVic has been involved with the Appeal for over 40 years and in that time, we are proud to have raised more than $950,000.
Special thanks to all of our volunteers as these events would not be possible without their assistance: Dylan Cooper, Loretta McColl, Matthew and Beth McLeod, Cheryl and Michael Duff, Jason Hodson, Troy Hicks, Garry Creek, Warren Patterson, Murray and Therese Smith, Jamie and Sharon Parsons, Mark Berryman, Alex Newman, Bob and Nicole Hallett, Graeme Brown, Andrew and Lucy Duncan, Kylie Shallies, Karen, Chloe & Cody McNicol, Rachel Kelly, Alicia Dickingson, Scott Tempany and Graham Lucas.

:
It was great to watch the team come together as one. There were some great results with some athletes taking home multiple medals, while others had some bad luck with injuries. Overall, the kids had a great experience, made some new friends, and have said they would like to come back to compete. Thank you to this year’s management team for all their hard work and effort.
