SOUTHERN SLOPES BOWLS NEWS

District Triples -Another busy weekend for the district bowlers with the first two rounds of the District Triples Championship conducted at Lake Cargelligo on Saturday with high quality bowls witnessed on a well prepared green, with several matches resulting in narrow margins of only a couple of shots difference, The semi - final and final will be played on Saturday 17th commencing at 9.30 am at Lake Cargelligo also.

Pennants

On Sunday the final of the Grade 2 to 5 Pennants were played with the Temora B & R 2’s finishing their Pennants on 48 points.

Grade 4 results – Temora Ex-Services 4’s winning on 29 points followed by Ariah Park on 17.5 points and West Wyalong B & R 4’s on 6.5 points

Grade 5 – Lake Cargelligo 28 points followed by Temora Ex-Services on 21

The lower grades of 6’s and 7’s have 2 more rounds to complete their pennant season.

Grade 6 sides show a much closer contest with Barmedman leading on 34 points closely followed by Weethalle on 32.5 points and Temora B & R 6’s not out of the equation on 29 points and Ardlethan holding 18.5 points.

Grade 7- West Wyalong S & C lead the table on 39 points followed by Ungarie on 31

Lake Cargelligo on 12.5 points and Ariah Park on 3.5 points. Both grades could well come down to the final round on Sunday 25th of March. I guess each of these last two matches could be quite tense games with the pressure right on, only time will yield the answers.

The question of a Pennant season of a Home and away series was posed to the Moth. The reply was

“that Clubs would have to give up days to have a home and away season and that would no doubt be resented, as it would impact on Club finances and with a resulting loss of revenue raised by Clubs through tournament and social days this system would not be possible. The only other option would be to run Pennants in October and finish the following calendar year possibly in February or March and therefore a split Pennant season - 2019 ???” Please give this some thought and discussion as this may still be an option.

District Pairs

The District Pairs are scheduled to commence on Saturday 7th April and conclude on Sunday 8th April with the Easter season commencing on Friday 30th March with Tournaments being held at West Wyalong B & R with a pairs tournament and Ariah Park holding a triples tournament. Easter Sunday Ardlethan will hold their Saunderson Triples and Ariah Park a Mixed Triples on Monday 2nd April.

Zone 8 Junior Championship

Also of interest the Zone 8 Junior Championship will be held in Wagga from Monday 16th to

Wednesday 18th of April, with entry forms shortly to be forwarded to Clubs that have juniors. Please keep a lookout for the form and Clubs please encourage their juniors to enter this event as it should be a good experience for them to look back on.
