Latar belakang.
Simpulan.

Background. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is a carcinoma arising in the nasopharyngeal mucosa that shows light microscopic of squamous differentiation. Several molecular targets have been identified in tumour specimen of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma. VEGF is an angiogenesis factor, which contributes to angiogenesis and subsequent growth, invasion and metastasis of tumours. T lymphocytes are recognized as the main effectors of anti tumor immune responses. They often associated with better clinical outcomes. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients can be classified according to their clinical stage in the system. The system that we used are TNM stage, T-stage and metastasis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
Objective. To investigate correlation between the expression of immunohistochemistry Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) and Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) with histopathological type and clinical staging of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
Material and Methods. This is an analytical descriptive study with cross sectional approach. The sample of this study are slides and paraffin blocks of nasopharyngeal tissue which diagnose histopatologically as nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Then the samples were stained with Hematoxilin Eosin and VEGF. Their expressions will be analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis statistical analysis to investigate the correlation with histopathological type and clinical staging of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
Results. Based on an analysis statistic Kruskal-Wallis test to 42 sample cases nasopharyngeal carcinoma to evaluated the correlation between the expression of VEGF with histopathological type with p-value = 0,501 (p>0,005), the correlation between the expression of VEGF with clinical staging with p-value = 0,772 (p>0,005), the correlation between TILs with histopathological type with p-value = 0,884 (p>0,005), the correlation between TILs with clinical staging with p-value = 0,886 (p>0,005).
Conclution. There is no significant correlation between the expression of immunohistochemistry VEGF and TILs with histopathological type and clinical staging of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
