LISTENING COMPREHENSION

In this section of the test, you will have the chance to show how well you understand spoken English. There are four parts to this section, with special directions for each part.

Part I: Photographs

Directions: For each question, you will see a picture in your test book and you will hear four short statements, They will not be printed in your test book, so you must listen carefully to understand what the speaker says. When you hear the four statements, look at the picture in your test book and choose the statement that best describes what you see in the picture.

READING COMPREHENSION

In this part of the test you will have the chance to show how well you understand written English. There are four parts to this, with special directions for each part.

Part I : Reading comprehension

Directions : In this part of the test, you will read several reading materials. Each reading passage will be followed by some questions with four possible answers: (A), (B), (C), or (D).Then, on your answer sheet, find the number of the question and mark your answer.

Questions 16 to 18 refer to the following text.

Bees are flying insects closely related to wasps and ants, and are known for their role in pollination and for producing honey and beeswax. There are nearly 20,000 known species of bees in nine recognized families though many are undescribed and the actual number is probably higher. They are found on every continent except Antarctica, in every habitat on the planet that contains insect-pollinated flowering plants.

Bees have a long proboscis (a complex "tongue") that enables them to obtain the nectar from flowers. They have antennae almost universally made up of 13 segments in males and 12 in females, as is typical for the super family. Bees all have two pairs of wings, the hind pair being the smaller of the two; in a very few species, one sex or caste has relatively short wings that make flight difficult or impossible, but none are wingless.

Mr. B.J. Habibie

Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie was born in Pare-pare, South Sulawesi, to Alwi Abdul Jalil and R.A. Tuti Marini Puspowardojo. He studied at the Bandung Institute of Technology for one year. Although B.J. Habibie’s himself was born in south Sulawesi, B.J. Habibie’s parents didn’t come from this region. His father was an agriculturist from Gorontalo and his mother was a Javanese noblewoman from Yogyakarta, who met when both of them were studying in Bogor.

During 1955-1965, he studied aerospace engineering at the RWTH Aachen University, Germany, receiving Diploma (Germany’s First degree certificate which is equivalent to Master in most countries) in 1960 and doctorate in 1965. He then worked for Masserschmitt-Bolkow-Blohm in Humberg. It might have been due to his time spent in Europe that made him interested in the Leica line of cameras. While working in Masserscmitt-Bolkow-Blohm, Habibie conducted many research assignments, producing theories on Thermodynamics, construction, and aerodynamics, known as the Habibie Theorem, and Habibie Method.
