event has

drawn

thousands of hopeful performers to Hariem's 125th Streetto

compete

for praise, prizes,

a

chance

at stardom.

In addition to talking

about

the Apollo's history

traditions

the central role

it has played in both

York City

and

African-American culture, Apollo staff will hold

open

auditions throughout the day

on

Friday. Contestantsare
