Pupuk Kaltim has been certified with ISO 14001:2004 by the Bureau Veritas Quality Insurance (BVQI) certification body from 1997 to 2016.
Furthermore, Pupuk Kaltim obtained ISO 14001:2015 certification from the independent institution TUV Rheinland for the first time in 2017.
Pupuk Kaltim is the first fertilizer company in Indonesia to receive the Green Industry Certificate in 2017 issued by the Ministry of Industry, and it has also received the Protect and Sustain Excellent level certification from the International Fertilizer Association (IFA).
Kepatuhan terhadap Regulasi
[307-1, 308-1]Pupuk Kaltim melaporkan hasil pemantauan kondisi lingkungan kepada pihak-pihak eksternal terkait secara berkala sesuai dengan peraturan perundang-undangan. Laporan kepada pihak-pihak eksternal dilakukan dalam rangka memenuhi kewajiban Perusahaan untuk mengungkapkan dan menyediakan informasi secara transparan serta dalam rangka memastikan penerapan prinsip-prinsip GCG berjalan secara efektif. Oleh karenanya, sepanjang 2023 tidak terdapat sanksi administratif ataupun denda terkait dengan pelanggaran baku mutu lingkungan dan pelanggaran peraturan pengelolaan lingkungan. [3-3, 307-1]
Pupuk Kaltim melakukan seleksi terhadap semua kontraktor/
pemasok baru yang akan menjadi rekanan perusahaan dengan memasukkan kriteria Lingkungan dan K3. Hal ini diatur di dalam Prosedur Penerapan Aspek K3 & LH pada Pengadaan Jasa (SMT-KKK-26) yang dilakukan dalam tahapan Pra-Qualification pada proses tender. Selama 2023, terdapat satu penyedia jasa baru yang diseleksi dengan memasukkan kriteria tersebut dengan prosentase kelulusan 100%. [308-1]
Pupuk Kaltim juga telah mengidentifikasi dan menerapkan langkah mitigasi terhadap dampak lingkungan negatif aktual dan potensial signifikan dalam rantai pasokan, antara lain: [308-2]
1. Tumpahan bahan kimia ke lingkungan.
2. Tumpahan limbah B3 yang diangkut ke lingkungan.
3. Pembuangan sisa hasil pekerjaan/proyek yang tidak sesuai peraturan.
4. Pembuangan limbah non-B3 yang tercampur dengan limbah B3.
Pada tahun 2023, biaya lingkungan hidup yang dikeluarkan perusahaan adalah sebesar Rp Rp8,403 miliar atau turun 44,10%
dibandingkan tahun sebelumnya. Biaya tersebut meliputi biaya pengendalian pencemaran air, pengendalian pencemaran udara, pengelolaan & pemanfaatan limbah B3, biaya penyusuan perijinan lingkungan, serta pemeliharaan lingkungan lainnya. [SEOJK F.4]
Compliance with Regulations
[307-1, 308-1]Pupuk Kaltim periodically reports the results of environmental condition monitoring to relevant external parties in accordance with legal regulations. Reporting to external parties is done to fulfill the Company’s obligation to disclose and provide information transparently and to ensure the effective implementation of GCG principles. Therefore, throughout 2023, there were no administrative sanctions or fines related to violations of environmental quality standards and environmental management regulations. [3-3, 307-1]
Pupuk Kaltim selects all new contractors/suppliers who will become the company’s partners by including Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety (K3) criteria. This is regulated in the Procedure for Implementing K3 & Environmental Aspects in Procurement Services (SMT-KKK-26) conducted during the Pre-Qualification stage of the tender process. During 2023, there was one new service provider selected with inclusion of these criteria, achieving a 100% passing rate. [308-1]
Pupuk Kaltim has also identified and implemented mitigation measures for actual and potential significant negative environmental impacts in the supply chain, including: [308-2]
1. Chemical spills into the environment.
2. 1Spills of hazardous waste (B3) transported into the environment.
3. Improper disposal of project/work leftovers not compliant with regulations.
4. Disposal of non-hazardous waste mixed with hazardous waste (B3).
In 2023, the company’s environmental expenditure amounted to Rp8.403 billion, representing a decrease of 44.10% compared to the previous year. This expenditure includes costs related to water pollution control, air pollution control, management and utilization of hazardous waste (B3), environmental permit fees, and other environmental maintenance costs. Untuk setiap proses produksi, Pupuk Kaltim memiliki dokumen analisis dampak lingkungan yang lengkap. Dalam dokumen tersebut tertuang metode pengelolaan dan pemantauan yang harus dilakukan. Pupuk Kaltim telah melaksanakan pengelolaan dan pemantauan yang dibutuhkan sesuai dokumen lingkungan. Selain dokumen lingkungan Pupuk Kaltim juga melakukan analisis risiko untuk kategori lingkungan untuk setiap proses bisnis. Proses bisnis yang memiliki nilai risiko (dampak) lingkungan yang tinggi dimitigasi hingga nilai risikonya menjadi rendah.

Gas alam merupakan bahan baku pembuatan amoniak dan dalam prosesnya menghasilkan CO2 sebagai produk samping. amoniak dan CO2 merupakan bahan baku utama untuk pembuatan urea. Produk urea disimpan dalam bentuk curah di UBS (Urea Bulk Storage) dan dikemas dalam karung berbahan dasar polypropylene kemasan 50 kg dan 20 kg yang dipasok oleh pihak ke-3 (supplier).
Secara total penggunaan gas alam sebagai bahan baku tahun 2023 mengalami peningkatan sebesar 4,59% terhadap tahun sebelumnya seiring dengan peningkatan kuantum produksi amoniak sebesar 0,54%.

Pupuk Kaltim selain menghasilkan urea, juga memproduksi amoniak melebihi kebutuhan bahan baku produksi urea sehingga ada sebagian amoniak yang dijual. Angka kebutuhan amoniak pada tabel diatas adalah murni amoniak yang digunakan sebagai bahan baku pembuatan urea.
Dalam proses produksi, Pupuk Kaltim melakukan daur ulang bahan baku melalui proses recovery purge gas dan flash gas dari buangan pabrik amoniak menjadi fuel gas, gas hidrogen, dan produk amoniak pada Hydrogen Recovery Unit (HRU) dan unit Purifier sehingga dapat meningkatkan produksi amoniak dan meningkatkan efisiensi energi.

Pupuk Kaltim consistently makes efforts to conserve natural resources as the main raw material for the production of fertilizer. The fertilizer industry is also an industry that requires significant energy and water resources. Therefore, Pupuk Kaltim carries out energy efficiency and water conservation programs. [3-3]
Natural gas is the raw material for making ammonia and in the process produces CO2 as a by-product. ammonia and CO2 are the main raw materials for making urea. Urea products are stored in bulk form at UBS (Urea Bulk Storage) and packaged in 50 kg and 20 kg polypropylene sacks supplied by a 3rd party (supplier).
In total, the use of natural gas as a raw material in 2023 will increase by 4.59% compared to the previous year in line with the increase in the quantum of ammonia production by 0.54%.
Pupuk Kaltim not only produces urea but also produces ammonia in excess of the raw material requirements for urea production, resulting in some of the ammonia being sold. The ammonia requirement figure in the table above represents purely the ammonia used as raw material for urea production.
In the production process, Pupuk Kaltim recycles raw materials through the recovery of purge gas and flash gas from the ammonia plant’s waste into fuel gas, hydrogen gas, and ammonia products in the Hydrogen Recovery Unit (HRU) and Purifier unit, thereby increasing ammonia production and improving energy efficiency.

Pupuk Kaltim belum pernah melakukan reclaim (penarikan kembali) baik produk maupun kemasan produk. Sebelum produk sampai ke konsumen, urea telah dipastikan sesuai dengan SNI 2801:2010. Sifat produk Pupuk Kaltim bisa disimpan dalam jangka waktu yang lama.
Kemasan produk biasanya dipergunakan kembali oleh para konsumen untuk kebutuhan terkait pertanian atau perkebunan. [301-3]
Pupuk Kaltim has never conducted product or product packaging reclaims. Before reaching consumers, urea is ensured to comply with SNI 2801:2010. Pupuk Kaltim’s products have a long shelf life.
