As my formal education comes to an end, I have many to thank for their consistent support throughout my seemingly never-ending quest for multiple graduate degrees. Next, I want to thank our four adult children, who have been a source of laughter and humility to me just when I needed it. I would like to thank Betsy Fredrick for her excellent skill in editing and formatting my dissertation.

I would like to thank the professors at SBTS who constantly provided me with support and encouragement. I'd like to thank the informal group for community during workshops at SBTS: Shawn Crawly, Ben Northcutt, Lou Cha, Micah Nave, Hans Googer, Jamus Edwards, and Steve Hudson. Finally, I want to thank the FTAs in the Great Lakes region who engaged in my task of sending my survey to your students.

RESEARCH CONCERN

First, one must understand the origin of the term "adolescence". The genesis of this term is revealed at the beginning of the twentieth century. Hawkins et al., "The Father Involvement Inventory: A Pilot Study of a New Measure of Father Involvement," The Journal of Men's Studies 10, no. Schwartz et al., "The Association of Well-Being with Health Risk Behaviors in College-Attend Young Adults," Applied Developmental Science 15, no.

Schwartz, “Father Involvement and Parenting Education Scales: Retrospective Measures for Adolescent Children and Adults,” Educational & Psychological Measurement 64, no. 15 Vern Sheridan Poythress, “The Church as Family: Why Male Leadership in the Family Requires Male Leadership in the Church,” in Recovering Biblical Manhood and Womanhood: A Response to Evangelical Feminism, ed. Liviu Barbu warns: "God's fatherhood is therefore not a human projection towards God, but the ontological way of the relationship of the father's existence with the son (and also, although differently, with the Holy Spirit).20 From the beginning of time, God is mentioned as Father.

For additional reading on this topic see Kevin Giles, "The Evangelical Theological Society and the doctrine of the Trinity," The Evangelical Quarterly 80, no. Iain Campbell writes: "The devotion of the firstborn was once again a reflection of the total devotion of the people to the God who redeemed them."39 A Christian father in the West can determine from this ancient practice that children are not. she owns Veneziano, "The Importance of Father Love: History and Contemporary Evidence," Review of General Psychology 5, no.

Grobler, "The Role of God in the Father/Son Relationship during Identity Formation-An Gestalttheoretical Perspective," Course: Bulletin for Christian Science. Estep and Kim in Christian Formation: Integration of Theology and Human Development write: "The imago Dei is the definitive mark of our Maker."186 Humans are unique in the world because of the imago Dei.

6Each potential sampling strategy includes "the ability to compare and contrast, to identify similarities and differences in the phenomena of interest." Lawrence A. The FIS attempted to answer two main questions: "How involved is your father in the twenty domains?" and "What do you want your father's involvement to be compared to what it really is?" The 20 closed questions gauged current and desired paternal involvement. Research question 2 was: "Which aspects of the three subscales of father involvement indicate a desire for more father involvement?" The specific questions associated with each subscale were analyzed to identify the specific aspect of paternal involvement a son desires (see Appendix 6).

We don't have many sharp conversations about spiritual things.” Illustratively, the difference in the average of actual and average desired spiritual development was confirmed. I am determined to be there for my children.” The pain this son was experiencing due to his lack of emotional development was severe. CONCLUSIONS

This historical context makes it possible to understand the meaning of Jesus' personal relationship with God the Father. Grudem further explains the importance of the relational component of the trinity: “Father and son are related to each other in the human family: the father directs and has authority over the son, and the son obeys and responds to the father's instructions. .”5 Family terms describing God the Father and God the Son provide a model for how earthly fathers can relate to their emerging adult sons, who, according to this research, desire similar relational connections to their fathers. The importance of the relational dimension of the relationship between father and son is also confirmed by ten other paternal responsibilities that were exercised in the ancient Near East.9 Each responsibility included relational influence.

The implication of the current literature for Cru and the contemporary church is the establishment that a father is prominent in the life of his growing adult son. To understand the specific application to Cru, the mission of the Great Lakes Region Cru is required. Of the MTLs in the Great Lakes, 92 percent responded to the request to ask their male students, which could indicate that MTLs observe a need for equipment related to the father-son relationship, or simply that their responses were influenced by my personal relation to them.

As previously mentioned, the theological basis for the father-son relationship throughout the life course is best described by Bruce Ware: "We can infer from God's fatherhood of his children something of the pattern that should be evident in the parenting manner and substance of human fathers.”29 God the Father is the pattern for paternal involvement. Ware, “God as Father, God the Father, and Human Fathers,” The Journal for Biblical Manhood and Womanhood 21, no. The application of the results of my research will be to determine the value and need to address paternal involvement in Cru ministries in the Great Lakes region.

By combining paternal involvement and its impact on an adult's positive relationships, Cru staff can expand their approach to the development of emerging adult learners. 36 In "The Importance of Self-Regulation for College Student Learning," Cohen's primary focus was to argue that it is important for college students to be able to self-regulate in order to perform well educationally. Danker, A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature, 3rd ed.

Another need exists for future researchers to identify whether the father's emotional well-being affects his growing son. Specifically, the question remains about the possibility of a growing son flourishing with an emotionally unhealthy father.

INTERVIEW PROTOCOL

Below is the Father Involvement and Mental Wellbeing survey, which includes additional demographic information. The study you are about to participate in is designed to investigate the relationship between actual and desired father involvement and its relationship to eudaimonic well-being. All information you provide will be kept strictly confidential and your name will never be mentioned or your name identified with your answers.

At the end of the survey, you will be given the opportunity to enter your email address for a chance to win a $250 scholarship for the 2016 Cru Summer Mission or the 2016 INDYCC Winter Conference. Purpose: The purpose of this interview is to explore the nuances of your experiences with your father regarding father involvement and emotional well-being. As your relationship with your father continues to grow, what would you like to do with him for fun in the future?

How has your relationship with your father helped you become aware of your personal limitations? Tell me about a time when your father helped you accept the good and the bad in your life. How do you think your relationship with your father has affected your ability to manage activities and opportunities in life?

How did your father's social development of your life help you choose or create social contexts for you personally. Linear regression results (Purpose in life predicted by emotional development and relaxation, fun and play.). Explain to me the way your father helped you develop goals for life.
