Research Question

This is also felt by parents who have children attending SMP Negeri 3 Patampanua, right in Batulappa District, Pinrang Regency. The descriptive qualitative research type used in this study aims to obtain information about the role of parents in the online learning process of children at SMP Negeri 3 Patampanua.

The author decided to conduct research at SMP Negeri 3 Patampanua because the school has implemented an online learning process where the role of parents is very important in the child's learning process. Therefore, the researchers will conduct research on the role of parents in online learning and the use of parents in the process of learning 4 English skills.

An interview is a conversation between an interviewer and an interviewee, the purpose of which is to obtain some information. The researcher was equipped with an interview guide and an MP3 recorder to elicit information from parents about the important role of parents in the online learning process. Interview guides were used to aid the interview process so that the objectives and desired information can be obtained from the interview.

The most important function of the recorder is that the researcher does not lose the complete data.

Procedure of Collecting Data

Based on this research, observation is a way of collecting data by observing behaviour, events or recording physical characteristics in a natural environment.33 In this case, observation can be done by direct observation of something. In this study, researchers will directly observe children's parents when they accompany their children during the online learning process, especially in English learning materials. Researchers went directly to students' homes to meet and observe how parents accompany their children during the online learning process.

In this study, researchers interviewed parents about what they already know about learning, especially English. Where the researchers interviewed parents about how they accompany their children during the online learning process, especially within the framework of the four basic English languages, namely writing, reading, listening and speaking.

Online learning is a new learning in the teaching and learning process that uses electronic devices, especially the Internet, in the delivery of learning. In this case it is the mother who is more active in assisting the child in the learning process.

In the teaching and learning process here, the parental role is very necessary because children definitely need assistance or perhaps guidance from parents. Here, parents should cooperate with each other in the child's learning process, because sometimes there are also some parents who do not follow their children during the learning process. So in online learning there are usually parents who do not understand and participate in the teaching process of their children.

The role of parents in this online lesson can be in the form of following, supervising, helping, explaining the material to the children. Now we can see the thoughts of parents when they accompany their children in the learning process.

Discussion

The role of parents in the online learning process

Parents play a very important role in children's education, especially in the learning process that parents must guide their children, especially in these times when children have to study at home. Parents have a duty to motivate and enthuse their children about learning, so that children can participate well and effectively in learning with the help of parents. Parents are obliged to provide children with good facilities and when children experience problems in the learning process, parents are also obliged to provide solutions and help children continue to learn.

Parents play an important role in the child's learning process, such as when children have difficulty understanding the material, parents become teachers, such as help children understand learning material that children do not understand the material. From the results of the study, many parents of class VIII students are aware of the importance of parental mentoring when learning online, but. Mentoring is an effort of the family, especially the parents, accompanying the children to meet the needs and solve the children's problems to support the optimization of the children's development.

Things parents do when children don't want to learn, parents provide motivation and give advice to children so that children still want to learn. Not only children, but also parents are bored if they have to be the main source of material for children when they are studying remotely. In learning to speak, parents have a role in supporting their children's learning, namely parents control the teaching and learning process, as facilitators, motivators and also teachers for children.

From the result, we conclude that parents, in the role of parents who support their children's learning, have the role of encouragers and motivators for children, so that children are more active in the learning process.
