AND INNOVATION
The Day of Integrity and Innovation was aimed at inculcating the values of integrity and innovation among employees. This year's theme, 'Integrity and Innovation Drives Great Culture', is relevant to the Government's steps towards achieving a world-class civil service. STIDC is committed to continuous improvement of its work processes and service delivery system.
Highlighting this year’s theme, “Integrity and Innovation Drives Excellent Culture”, STIDC General Manager, Datu Haji Sarudu Haji Hoklai said it is relevant with the government’s stride towards achieving a world-class civil service. Parallel with this aspiration, he said STIDC is committed to striving for continuous improvement in its work processes and service delivery system. In appreciation of the staff commitment as well as excellent work performance and integrity attitude, he added that STIDC had initiated the Integrity Exemplary Award.
As such, he urged the staff to continue to practice good governance with innovation and always strive for the best. On cultivating innovation at STIDC, Datu Haji Sarudu emphasized that steps were taken to ensure continuous improvement in work processes, including through MS ISO 9001:2008, as well as Innovative and Creative Teams (ICT) and the Core Focus Activity. This year, two ICTs from STIDC were recognized at state and national ICT conventions.
In conjunction with its 40th anniversary this year, STIDC also successfully organized the Integrity and Innovation Public Speaking Competition with the aim of helping. STIDC has also achieved a remarkable achievement under the ICT initiative by creating its own Timber Portal which is an online web based search tool. The Wood Portal was officially launched in conjunction with this year's Integrity and Innovation Day by the Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister's Department (Promotion of Technical Education and Environment), the Honorable Datu Haji Len Talif Salleh.

MICCOS
Among other things, MICCOS aims to promote progress and the latest development of the country's commodity industries, including technology and commodity-based new products. This year marks STIDC's 40th year of playing its role as a leader and catalyst for the wood-based industry in Sarawak. The competition, which attracted over 400 entrants, was divided into three categories, namely nature/forest landscape, timber and its uses, and flora and fauna.
The competition was also in support of the government's efforts to encourage people to love and conserve forests for the benefit of present and future generations. As a leader and catalyst of the timber industry in Sarawak, STIDC is also keen to explore the use of timber species to add value to forest resources.
Tanjung Manis had been identified as one of the new growth nodes in the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE). Sarawak earned an export value of RM5.4 billion from timber and timber products during the period January-September 2013. These items contributed almost 93% or RM4.99 billion of Sarawak's total export earnings of timber and timber products.
The five major consuming countries during the period were Japan (RM2.1 billion), India (RM825 million), Taiwan (RM619 million), the Middle East (RM422 million) and Korea (380 million) with almost 81% or RM4.4 billion of the total export income of timber and timber products from the State. Sarawak hopes to sustain the export value of timber and timber products at RM7.2 billion level this year due to favourable economic situation in the major consuming countries. It is also hoped that Japan would increase its demand for timber and timber products following the election of Tokyo as the host for Olympic Games 2020.
Joint efforts will continue to support Sarawak as the leading exporter of tropical wood products in the region. In addition to plywood, moldings and particle boards other wood products had also declined in export value. Recently, STIDC had successfully organized the first Grand Timber Exhibition in Kuching, Sarawak, which among other things aimed to strengthen Sarawak as a source of raw materials for tropical timber products.

The values of logs and wood products exported in the first three quarters of 2013 decreased by 7.8% to RM5.4 billion from RM5.5 billion. This had contributed 89% to the total export value of logs and wood products from the state from January to September 2013.
