Osteocalcin expression can be observed through the number of osteoblasts which function as the producing cells of osteocalcin. Based on the results of Kolmogorov- Smirnov’s test, it is known that the osteocalcin expres- sions on the alveolar bone in the rats are normally distrib- uted (p> 0.05). Moreover from the results of Levene's test, it is shown that the relation among the groups has a variety of homogeneity (p> 0.05 = 0.48). Because the data were normally distributed and homogeneous, thus, to de- termine the difference of the osteocalcin expressions among the groups, ANOVA analysis is used. Based on the LSD test, the result shows that the value of p is <0.05, indicating that the expressions of osteocalcin in all four treatment groups have significant differences. The significant differences of osteocalcin expressions occur between those in the control group and those in the treat- ment groups induced by adhesin, adhesin + A. actinomy-

Effect of fish oil on lipopolysaccharide-induced hydroxyapatite loss in rat alveolar bone: A Preliminary Study

Dietary fish oil has been shown to inhibit bone resorption and, therefore, the aim of the present study was to test the hypothesis that fish oil alters lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced hydroxyapatite loss in rat alveolar bone. Rats were divided into four groups. The animals injected with saline or Escherichia coli-derived LPS into the maxillary alveolar mucosa on the buccoapical site of the molar region daily for 8 days were served as a negative or positive control, respectively. Other groups of animals were injected with LPS and orally treated with fish oil at the same day with or after LPS injection. The results of the present study showed that the hydroxyapatite contents of alveolar bone in rats treated with fish oil at the same day with or before LPS injection were significantly higher than those in rats injected with LPS alone, but still lower than those in untreated animals. Therefore, the present study suggests that oral treatment with fish oil may reduce LPS-induced hydroxyapatite loss in rat alveolar bone

Status Periodontal Dan Kehilangan Tulang Alveolar Pada Restorasi Proksimal Yang Overhang - Periodontal Status And Alveolar Bone Loss On Overhanging Proximal Restorations.

A healthy periodontal tissue dependent on placing a proper restoration especially proximal restoration whereas to place an overhang restoration could be a risk factor for gingivitis and alveolar bone loss. The aim of the study was to ind out relation prevalence periodontal status and alveolar bone loss on proximal restorations. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on patients who visited Tarogong Dental Unit Public Health Centre, Garut Regency between March and November 2010 and their periodontal status including The National Institute of Dental Research. Gingiva bleeding index, probing pocket depth using Williams probe with scale 0–10 mm, Silness-Löe plaque index and Schei technic alveolar bone loss analysis were recorded. Twenty-one out of thirty- ive of overhanging proximal restorations had bleeding on probing. Based on plaque index (Silness-Löe) 8 out of 14 respondents were categorized as a poor and 6 out of 14 had moderate category of plaque index. Overhanging proximal restorations, which had pocket depth more than 3 mm, were 24 out of 35 restorations with 8% mean alveolar bone loss. Relative risk of gingival bleeding on overhanging proximal restoration was 1.05 meanwhile the relative risk of pocket depth was 1.60. In conclusions, on overhanging proximal restorations show that there are poor plaque index, bleeding gingival, probing pocket depth more than 3 mm and alveolar bone loss. [MKB. 2012;44(3):133–7].

Pengukuran dimulai dari puncak tulang alveolar ke cement enamel junction kemudian dikurangi 1mm untuk menunjukkan adanya kehilangan tulang. 22 Hou, Hung et al (2008) melakukan pengukuran penurunan tulang alveolar dengan metode Proksimal RABL ( resorbtion of alveolar bone loss ) didefinisikan sebagai cacat tulang sekurangnya 2 mm jarak antara CEJ (titik A) dan puncak alveolar (titik B). Kedalaman kerusakan dicatat sebagai persentase dari rasio RABL ke akar panjang. CEJ radiografi (titik A), tulang crest alveolar (titik B) dan apeks akar (titik C) digunakan sebagai tiga titik acuan untuk menghitung RABL. Bone healing is a complex process that involves local and systemic organic activity and osteoblast are some of the cells directly involved in this mechanism. There are three phases in bone healing including reactive phase (phase inflammation and granulation tissue formation), reparative phase (cartilage callus formation and deposition of lamellar bone) and remodeling phase (formation of bone contour). Osteoblasts plays an important role in the mineralization process. Osteoblast proliferating from the pre-existing bone beneath the calcified cartilage, and in conjunction with angiogenic activity, form bone on the calcified cartilage stratum. This bone formation process is endochondral ossification. Small bone defects, such as socket after tooth extraction, heal by direct synthesis of new bone to fill the defect. After extraction no bone formation occurred for the first week. At 8 days, new bone formation was noted throughout the alveolar bone, particularly under the wall but not on the surface of the bone lining the extraction socket. At 10 days, bone formation was noted on the surface of the socket wall. At 12 days, new bone formation continued along the socket wall and in the trabecular spaces surrounding the extraction site. Osteoblasts regulates calcium and phosphate concentrations. In addition osteoblasts also express alkaline phosphatase in high quantities to the plasma membrane. Osteoblasts as secretory metabolically active, producing a number of BMP-2, BMP-7 and growth factor. Osteoblasts also express RANKL and OPG expression products of osteoblasts occurs during bone remodeling. 3,4

The measurement of the alveolar bone crest in aggressive periodontitis using Cone Beam Computed Tomography imaging | Lestari | Padjadjaran Journal of Dentistry 35626 1 SM

The normal alveolar bone crest located at a distance of 1 to 2 mm from CEJ towards the apical. If there is a bone loss, the alveolar bone crest located at 2 mm more to the apical from CEJ. The alveolar bone loss is one characteristic of aggressive periodontitis and the onset of the disease at the age of puberty. The purpose of this research was to know and to assess the height of alveolar bone crest using Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) in patients with aggressive periodontitis. The type of this research was descriptive. A total of 317 sample CBCT imagery from 6 aggressive periodontitis patients. The result of this research showed that average height of alveolar bone crest second premolar distal, the irst molar mesial, irst molar distal and second molar mesial on the irst region were 3 mm, 4.2 mm, 6.1 mm, and 4.8 mm respectively. On the second region were 3.2 mm, 3.6 mm, 3.6 mm, and 3.4 mm respectively, and in the third region were 2.4 mm, 2.8 mm, 2.5 mm dan 1.4 mm consecutively. While in the fourth region were 2.9 mm, 3 mm, 2.8 mm, and 2.3 mm respectively. The average height of alveolar bone crest of aggressive periodontitis was 3.8 mm. Slicing CBCT imagery on coronal view for the anterior region and sagittal view for the posterior region, showed the characteristic of height alveolar bone crest was arch-shaped which showed the diferent height of alveolar bone crest of the second premolar distal until second molar mesial.
