Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dalam istilah bahasa Inggris adalah ClassroomActionResearch (CAR), yaitu sebuah kegiatan penelitian yang dilakukan di kelas. 3 kata yang membentuk pengertian tersebut, maka ada tiga pengertian yang dapat diterangkan. 1. Penelitian, merunjuk pada suatu kegiatan mencermati suatu objek dengan menggunakan cara dan aturan metodologi tertentu untuk memperoleh data atau informasi yang bermanfaat dalam meningkatkan mutu suatu hal yang menarik minat dan penting bagi peneliti. 2. Tindakan, merunjuk pada sesuatu gerak kegiatan yang sengaja dilakukan dengan tujuan tertentu.
The study of classroomactionresearch (CAR) indicates as a process in which teachers investigate teaching and learning to improve students' learning problems. 1 To find out students’ learning problem, Geoffrey E. Mills stated that actionresearch is any systematic inquiry conducted by teacher researchers, principals, school counselors or other stakeholder in the teaching / learning environment to gather information about how their particular school operate, how they teach, and how well their students learn. 2 That is why actionresearch is different from other more conventional or traditional types of research; it focused on individual or small- group professional practice. Actionresearch tries to take an action and effect positive educational change in the specific school environment that was studied.
Based on vision of the ministry of education and culture in 2015, Teachers are inisiator of educational ecosystem. In order to create a good educational ecosystem one of the programs the government is intensifying the teachers to make improvements teaching through classroomactionresearch. MGMP IPA Sub Rayon 04 is a platform for science subject teachers in conducting innovative activity in improving competence. Based on the interview, one of the difficulties of teachers in improving their competence is in doing classroomactionresearch and scientific publications. The aim of this study is an effort to increase the knowledge and skills of teachers in improving the ability of doing classroomactionresearch and scientific publications. Knowledge in this case more specifically on actionresearch paradigm. The above activities implemented through Community Service program. Implementation consists of courses (1) training paradigm of actionresearch, (2) the manufacture and seminar proposals classroomactionresearch-based peer guided, (3) assistance and guidance in doing classroomactionresearch, (4) mentoring and guidance in making reports classroomactionresearch, and (5) the publication of scientific articles and research results. Target on this activities are teachers who are members of IPA sub-rayon 04 MGMP Semarang in particular and other subject teachers in general.These programme were, because the community service program generates classroomactionresearch proposal draft of at least 50% of participants. The results showed the achievement of success indicators activities community service program that 15 of the 20 trainees have written a draft proposal classroomactionresearch.
Based on phenomena above, the researcher will conduct an actionresearch entitled “IMPROVING STUDENT’S VOCABULARY MASTERY THROUGH GUESSING PICTURE : A CLASSROOMACTIONRESEARCH AT THE FIFTH GRADE OF SD N 1 DUKUH BANYUDONO BOYOLALI IN 2012/2013 ACADEMIC YEAR”.

The research design of this research was classroomactionresearch (CAR) which was conducted to enhance the eighth grade students’ participation and their vocabulary achievement by using individual pictures at SMPN 3 Balung. Elliot (1991: 69) defines actionresearch as the study of a social situation, with a view to improve the quality of action within it. Additionally, Thornburry (2002: 139) says that classroomactionresearch is small-scale classroomresearch implemented by teachers and directed at improving learning outcomes. The design of this classroomactionresearch was adapted from the cycle model proposed by Lewin in Elliot (1991: 69). Concerning with the research implementation, each cycle covered four activities, namely: the planning of the action, the implementation of the action, classroom observation and reflection of the action.
Uraikan alternatif tindakan yang akan dilakukan untuk memecahkan masalah. Pendekatan dan konsep yang digunakan untuk menjawab masalah yang diteliti, hendaknya sesuai dengan kaidah penelitian tindakan kelas. Cara pemecahan masalah ditentukan berdasarkan pada akar penyebab permasalahan dalam bentuk tindakan (action) yang jelas dan terarah.
The method used in this research was ClassroomActionResearch (CAR). CAR is research carried out in the classroom by the teacher of the course. According to Burns (2010), one of the main aims of classroomactionresearch is to identify a ‘problematic’ situation or issue that the participants— who may include teachers, students, managers, administrator, or even parents — consider worth looking into more deeply and systematically. CAR can be a very valuable way to extend teaching skills and gain more understanding of the teachers' personalities, the classrooms, and the students. It is related to the ideas of ‘reflective practice’ and ‘the teacher as researcher’. A teacher becomes an investigator or explorer of his or her personal teaching context, while at the same time being one of the participants in it. According to Leavy (2014), classroomactionresearch typically involves four broad phases in a cycle of research, such as planning, acting, observing, and reflecting.
Upaya peningkatan kemampuan meneliti di masa lalu cenderung dirancang dengan pendekatan research-development-dissemination (RDD). Pendekatan ini lebih menekankan perencanaan penelitian yang bersifat top-down dan bersifat kuat orientasi teoritiknya. Paradigma demikian dirasakan tidak sesuai dengan perkembangan pemikiran baru, khususnya Manajemen Peningkatan Mutu Berbasis Sekolah (MPMBS). Pendekatan MPMBS menitikberatkan pada upaya perbaikan mutu yang inisiatifnya berasal dari motivasi internal pendidik dan tenaga kependidikan itu sendiri (an effort to internally initiate endeavor for quality improvement), dan bersifat pragmatis naturalistik.
Before implementing the classroomactionresearch, the writer observed the classroom while teaching learning process. It was held on Thursday, Mei 10 th 2012 at VIII class of SMP Ash-Sholihin, Kebon Jeruk academic year 2011/2012. That class consisted of 32 students. The English lesson began at 13.00 P.M - 14.10 P.M. Apparently, while the writer was observing the teaching learning process, the teacher was explaining about the reading text and the schematic structure of the text. After that, the teacher read aloud in front of the class. Only several students obeyed the instruction and followed him. Then, the teacher gave an instruction to translate the text into Bahasa Indonesia. When doing the task, it could be seen some students lack understanding about the text, they came forward to the teacher’s table and asked difficult section. Other students did many things, for instance, the diligent students looked up the dictionary and did the task. Nevertheless, other students ignored the instructions, chatting and kidding with their friends.
Further, the results of this research are relevant to the previous research results. For example, Sri (2013), who conducted a classroomactionresearch by using Guessing Game on vocabulary achievement on the seventh year students at MTS Muhammadiyah Al Manar Kenduwer Wedung Demak Semarang in the 2012/2013 academic year. This research proved that using Guessing Game could improve the students’ vocabulary achievement. Another study was done by Badingatussalamah (2013) in his experimental research to the seventh grade students’ vocabulary achievement at SMPN 33 Purworejo in the 2012/ 2013 academic year. The result showed that there was a significant effect of using Guessing Game in teaching vocabulary achievement on the seventh grade.
Planning usually starts with something like a general idea. For one reason or another it seems desirable to reach certain objective. 36 This phase was the first step of research procedure. This was the most important step in conducting ActionResearch as by knowing the problems, the writer and the teacher could find a good solution to solve the problem arose. Furthermore, in this phase the planning is divided into two types. Those are general planning and specific planning. The general planning is aimed at organizing whole aspects referred to ClassroomActionResearch. On the other side, the specific planning will be formed into lesson planning based on the current used syllabus. 37 The lesson plan has been prepared to be implemented in VIII.1. class of SMP PGRI II Ciputat. 2.
