PRE-SERVICE MATHEMATICS TEACHERS’ CONCEPTION OF HIGHER-ORDER THINKING LEVEL IN BLOOM'S TAXONOMY

Bloom, Engelhart, Hill, Furst, & Krathwhol (1956) divided the taxonomy of educational into six levels: (1) knowledge; (2) comprehension; (3) application; (4) analysis; (5) synthesis and (6) evaluation. The sixth level is grouped into two major parts, namely, lower order thinking (knowledge, comprehension, and application) and higher-order thinking (analysis, synthesis, and evaluation). Bloom’s taxonomy is revised by Anderson & Kratwohl (2001) and brings new educational taxonomy into (1) remembering; (2) understanding; (3) applying; (4) analyzing; (5) evaluating, and (6) creating. The aspects of higher-order thinking in the taxonomy are revised: (1) analyzing; (2) evaluating; and (3) creating. The last three levels which are defined as higher-order thinking have many attributes or characteristics that distinguish one another; allows the use as a part in learning activities in both the process and its evaluation. Analyzing is associated with cognitive processes by giving, attributing, organizing, integrating and validating. Evaluating includes checking, critiquing, hypothesizing, and experimenting. Creating includes generating, designing, producing, and devising.

Fish biological research has been conducted by several institutions (Table 2). A high of 183 species was recorded (OEPP 1999), and low figures are 53 (KKU 1997) and 32–70 species (Yingcharoen and Vilapat 2000). Boonya- ratpalin and others (2002) identified 149 species repre- senting 33 families. The wide range reported reflects mainly differences in methodology and sampling sites, or differ- ences in annual flood levels. Water level is particularly significant since most fish are migratory species whose arrival in and departure from inundated areas varies by family or lower taxonomic level (cf. Ruddle 1987). How- ever, the fish diversity in the LSRB is higher than that of the Pong, Chi and Mun River Basin, where only 96 fish species representing 28 families were recorded (Sricharoendham and others 1998) and that of the Tha Chin Basin, where 77 fish species representing 21 families (Sricharoendham and others 1999) were recorded. A connection with the Mekong River, which permits the ingress of Mekong species, might account for the high diversity in the LSRB (Rainboth 1996). The LSRB rainy season is from May to October, nor- mally with a peak in August–September; the hot season occurs in March–April; and the relatively cool and dry period lasts from November to February. The migratory behavior of fish, and therefore the types of fishing gear used, is closely related to this seasonality. Three categories can be recognized, based on season and related water level (Fig. 2). First is the May to September period, when water levels increase with flow from the Mekong into the Songkhram. At this time, fish migrate with the flow for spawning and early growth, and are caught mostly with hook, long line, small trap, gill net, cover pot, casting net, spear, small bag net, and tube trap. Since spermatozoa have no capacity for DNA repair (Drost and Lee, 1995), it is the oocyte that shoulders the responsibility for repairing the genetic damage brought into the zygote by the fertilizing spermatozoon (Matsuda and Tobari, 1989). If DNA damage is not repaired at this stage, checkpoint controls will be exerted at each cleavage division and cells still found to contain damaged genes, will be deleted by apoptosis. Such a mechanism could readily explain the observed association between DNA damage in human spermatozoa and high rates of fragmentation in embryos generated by assisted conception therapy (Morris et al., 2002; Tomsu et al., 2002). However, if the mutations introduced by such mechanisms are sufficiently subtle, they will escape recognition and have the potential to interfere with the health and wellbeing of the offspring. Such a mechanism could readily account for the elevated incidence of dominant genetic mutations, such as achondroplasia, in the offspring of ageing fathers (Crow, 1997). As indicated above, such mutations are not frequently induced in the germ line of older men, as was previously suspected (Tiemann-Boegge et al., 2002). An alternative hypothesis is presented in Figure 2, wherein the significantly elevated levels of DNA damage observed in the spermatozoa of ageing males are held to constitute a pro-mutational change that then becomes fixed as a mutation in the embryo as a result of defective repair in the oocyte or early embryo (Figure 2).

Besides, the application of the technique of translating the simile by reduction to 4 similes or 7,84% of the total data can create 3 readable translations (75%) while 1 simile translation (25%) is considered less readable. On the other hand, the application of the technique of translating the simile without comparison to the other two similes or 3,92% of the total data creates one readable simile translation (50%) while the other simile translation (50%) is considered less readable. The raters also say that Yuni does not give clear explanations about the special terms contained in the similes. This condition makes her simile translations less readable. However, none of her simile translations is assessed unreadable.

A novel configuration to excite dual frequency operation for Satellite application using microstrip line has been experimentally studied. It is shown that the two frequencies can be easily controlled by varying the length patch antenna and adjusting the feed position and also the length of the microstrip feed line. It is observed that return loss of -27.84 dB with VSWR 1.085 can be achieved for the first frequency at 3.9 GHz and the impedance bandwidth is about 416 MHz or 83.8%. For the second frequency is at 6 GHz with return loss of -18.43 dB and VSWR 1.272 has the impedance bandwidth of 385 MHz or 77.6%. Therefore the proposed antenna is applicable as a new candidate for dual frequency antenna microstrip for Satellite application.
