, # It was all a lie. I’m so sorry to have made a game out of fooling you. Will you forgive me? We are most certainly not going to get married. If we did a thing like that the world would turn to chaos: ten tankers would sink in the harbor, and thousand trains would be derailed; the glass in the windows all over the city would shatter, and every lovely rose would turn black as coal.

The Interest Of English Students Of Faculty Of Letters, In The University Of Sumatera Utara In Reading Literary Works

A society, then, is a group of people with a shared and somewhat distinct culture, who live in a defined territory, feel some unity as a group, and see themselves as distinct from other peoples. A society needs to be independent enough to avoid being swallowed up by other societies (Persell, Caroline Hodger. 1987). The word society may also refer to an people for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes. The English word "society" emerged in the 15th century and is derives from the French société. The French word, in turn, had its origin in the "companion, associate, and comrade or business partner." The Latin word is probably related to the verb sequi, "to follow", and thus originally may have meant "follower". (www.wikipedia.com)

The Analysis of Grammatical Errors of First Year Students’ Essays

The Analysis of Grammatical Errors of First Year Students’ Essays

Ellis (1997) raises the need to distinguish between errors and mistakes and makes an important distinction between the two. He says that errors reflect gaps in the learner’s knowledge; they occur because the learner does not know what is correct. Mistakes reflect occasional lapses in performance; they occur because, in a particular instance, the learner is unable to perform what he or she knows. Following Ellis (1997), it needs to check whether the unacceptable forms made by the students were errors or mistakes by giving them the second and third tests. In the second and third writing tasks, attention was paid to the students who previously made unacceptable forms in their first essays (the 70 students). Having been identified, the result of the second and third tests proved that 30 out of 70 students made consistently and systematically unacceptable forms (errors). To support the data analysis, ten out of 30 students who committed grammatical errors were interviewed. Next, the grammatical errors made by the students in their essays were classified into some grammatical types, and interpreted to find the possible causes of the errors. The design was chosen to provide a clear framework for collecting, analyzing, discussing, and interpreting data to address the research goals (Creswell and Clark, 2011).

A Brief Description Of Rebu In Karonese Culture

A Brief Description Of Rebu In Karonese Culture

With an altitude of about 1,300 meters above sea level, the Karo plateau is cool and relatively dry. Two active volcanos, mount Sibayak and mount Sinabung are located on its borders. Although the soils of the rest of Batak highland are relatively poor, volcanic eruptions have produced an extremely fertile topsoil in the Karo region, the land is however, difficult to irrigate because of its permeability. Prior to the introduction of commercial agriculture in the early twentieth century dry, field rice was the principle crop throughout the region, with a small amount of wet rice grown seasonally along the river banks. Today the Karo highlands are one of Indonesian major vegetable and fruit producing regions.

The Office is chosen as the source of data because it uses English that is simple, so that it is easier for the readers, even by the English learners, to know what Alice Munro tells in her short story. The other reason, this short story is considered unique, because the ending of this story is quite flat, and not really surprising.

Willy Wonka`s narcissistic personality in Roald Dahl`s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Willy Wonka`s narcissistic personality in Roald Dahl`s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The second reason for the cause of Wonka’s narcissistic personality is continously becoming media frenzy. The society somehow has a part in making Wonka becoming a guy with narcissistic personality disorder. Wonka owns the best chocolate factory in the world, and everybody knows him. He is truly aware of the fact that his products are very successful. They always become the number one, and his customers love them. His customers adore whatever comes out of Wonka’s factory. The society puts him on the spotlight. He and his products also become huge global phenomena. It is the news and people’s acknowledgment of his products that actually increases his pride of himself. Acknowlegment in this context is considered as praise by Willy Wonka. The more acknowledgment he gains, the more self-esteem he has. That supports the idea that narcissistic people rely on the praise of others to build up their self-esteem (Wilson et al, 1996: 386). Wonka is able to grow more and more self-esteem due to the fact that the media constantly puts him as the center of attention and also due to the fact that he is successful and adored by the society. Moreover, he lives by himself, so that it is so easy for him to admire himself because he only deals with his own for the last ten years. One example of people’s acknowledgment can be found through Grandpa Joe’s dialogue to Charlie.
