Perpanjangan pengamatan yang dimaksud yaitu memperpanjang durasi waktu untuk tinggal atau terlibat dalam kegiatan yang menjadi sasaran penelitian. Dengan perpanjangan pengamatan ini, peneliti mengecek kembali apakah data yang telah diberikan selama ini merupakan data yang sudah benar atau tidak. Bila data yang diperoleh selama ini setelah dicek kembali pada sumber data asli ternyata tidak benar, maka peneliti melakukan pengamatan lagi yang lebih luas dan mendalam sehingga diperoleh data yang pasti kebenarannya. 12 Dalam perpanjangan pengamatan difokuskan pada pengujian terhadap data yang telah diperoleh dimaksudkan untuk membangun kepercayaan diri peneliti sendiri. Artinya ketika peneliti masih ada yang kurang dalam mengambil atau memperoleh data maka peneliti melakukan perpanjangan pengamatan sehingga peneliti akan benar-benar mendapatkan data yang valid mengenai penerapan strategi learning beyond the facts dalam mengembangkan kemampuan berpikir kreatif siswa pada mata pelajaran SKI di MA NU Mazro’atul

Berdasarkan penelitian terdahulu di atas, maka terdapat perbedaan dan persamaan dengan penelitian yang peneliti lakukan. Adapun perbedaannya dengan ketiga penelitian di atas adalah penelitian Fithriyyatul Muna memfokuskan metode berprograma dalam mengembangkan kreativitas siswa. Sedangkan dalam penelitian ini memfokuskan pada mempelajari sesuatu melebihi fakta. Pada penelitian Ahmad Bukhori menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode angket, sedangkan penelitian yang peneliti lakukan adalah menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode wawancara. Dan penelitian dari Adi berisi tentang tingkat kemampuan berpikir kreatif siswa dalam mata pelajaran matematika. Sedangkan dalam penelitian ini berisi tentang bagaimana bentuk implementasi learning beyond the facts pada pembelajaran SKI di MA NU Mazro’atul Huda Karanganyar Demak. Sedangkan untuk persamaan dari ketiga penelitian di atas adalah sama-sama memfokuskan pada kemampuan berpikir kreatif siswa.

menghafalkan semua teori yang tercantum dalam buku-buku pelajaran, tetapi juga dapat melatih siswa untuk mengembangkan kemampuan berpikirnya. 11 Mengajak siswa lebih dalam lagi mempersepsikan mengenai kejadian- kejadian sejarah yang terjadi. Sehingga tidak terpacu pada materi yang ada saja, pembelajaran juga tidak terlalu monoton dengan metode ceramah saja tetapi lebih menekankan pada Learning Beyond The Facts dimana siswa dalam pembelajaran tidak sekedar membacanya dalam teks saja tetapi juga memikirkan lebih dalam lagi mengenai fakta-fakta yang terjadi di dalam sejarah. Hal ini juga sesuai dengan pendidikan karakter dalam kurikulum 2013 yang salah satunya mencakup kreativitas. Dengan pemaparan di atas penulis tertarik untuk mengangkat tema tentang Learning Beyond The Facts (mempelajari sesuatu melebihi fakta) dan mengadakan penelitian yang berjudul “Implementasi Learning Beyond The Facts Dalam mengembangkan kemampuan berfikir kreatif siswa pada mata pelajaran SKI di MA NU Maro’atul Huda Karanganyar Demak”.

Tidak hanya sekarang, tapi sejak dahulu, 23-28 tahun yang lalu, sejak saya berkuliah di Fakultas Adab (1990-1995). Dan ternyata saat itu saya lebih banyak belajar beyond the classroom dan beyond textbook. Saya pernah aktif di paduan suara kampus, pernah ikut latihan teater kampus sekali, aktif dan jadi ketua di Lembaga Studi Sejarah Kebudayaan Islam—LS2KI, aktif dan jadi pengurus Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam (HMI) di komisariat Fak Adab, bahkan aktif dan jadi pengurus di organisasi lingkungan hidup dan kemanusiaan yang bernama Kembara Insani Ibnu Batutah (RANITA). Kelihatan sepele. Tapi setelah saya berefleksi, ternyata itulah jembatan-jembatan kecil yang membantu saya bisa lulus dengan cumlaude, bisa berkuliah S2 di Universitas Leiden di Belanda, membuat pusat kajian dan lembaga kemanusiaan di kampus, dan kemudian studi S3 di Universitas Melbourne. Keduanya masuk dalam World Class University.
