A library as a source of information should become the heart of the university. University Library (UL) should serve as an integral part of education, research and community service. However in reality, university libraries in Indonesia are still not functioned optimally. UL in Indonesia still lags behind those in other countries, especially in the United States. This paper aims to provide an overview of how UL in the University of New Mexico, one of flagstaff universities in the United States, are functioned and what facilities and services are provided and offered in supporting academic life and activities at UNM.

Urban Water in Mexico (1)

Urban Water in Mexico (1)

These questions and others are addressed in the present volume which is focused on the urban water problems of the Americas. Urban water problems are especially important since more than 60% of the world population lives in cities and this number is increasing every year. Moreover, according to United Nations statistics the Americas are among the most urbanized regions of the world (> 80%). Urbanization goes hand in hand with intensification in the use of water resources for human needs; in turn, hydrological systems play a role in the development and growth of cities not only as a source of drinking water but also for the deposition of wastes. Urban Water Challenges in the Americas describes and analyzes the problems of water in urban centers in 20 countries of the Americas: spanning from South America, Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean to the United States and Canada. This unique examination of the countries of the Americas, each with different water resources characteristics, diverse levels of economic and social development, varying problems related to water quality and quantity and different experiences with water management, is a contribution from the Interamerican Network of Academies of Science (IANAS). The goal of the volume is to aid in the search for solutions to the challenges of properly managing water resources in urban areas as described in the 20 chapters of this book. Evidence from both developed and developing countries shows that to be effective the management of water resources must extend beyond the city to include the surrounding watersheds from which the water comes.

fern community forestry mexico

fern community forestry mexico

Mexico’s community forests are some of the most advanced in the world: communities collectively own more than 50 million hectares of the country’s 63 million hectares of forest. This is thanks in large part to the mass decentralisation land ownership that began with the Mexican Revolution and new constitution in 1917. Another important factor was the progressive devolution of the right to manage forests, meaning communities are no longer required to hire companies to extract their timber. Forest management decisions are now made largely at the local level, though the government must ensure there is no conflict over land ownership, and that the community follows their management plan.

310,000 MT based on the January to July import data. During the January to July period, imports grew overall by 24 percent compared with the same period in 2016. Imports from the United States grew by 16 percent, but notably, Spain and Canada’s imports grew significantly during this t ime period when compared to 2016 (474 percent and 212 percent respectively). During this same period (January to July), the U.S. market share dropped to 85 percent (92 percent in 2016), and New Zealand dropped to less than half a percent, while Spain jumped to 9 percent, and Canada to 2 percent. These shifts have been due to attractive prices and exchange rates. In general, international prices for SMP are currently low. Other imported product comes from various EU countries.

a theoretical perspective for proof cons

a theoretical perspective for proof cons

Here are some decompositions that may be more psychological in nature. One can change one’s focus , for example by deciding to unpack the conclusion of a theorem, by finding or recalling a relevant definition, or by applying a definition. Such actions are sometimes part of constructing a second-level proof framework (Selden, Benkhalti, & Selden, 2014; Selden & Selden, 1995). Also developing a feeling of knowing or of self-efficacy can have a major effect (Selden & Selden, 2014). A student may develop and have for a time a feeling of not knowing what to do next, that is, the student might be at an impasse. Upon reaching such an impasse, the student might decide to do something else for a while, and coming back later, might hope to get a new idea. Many mathematicians have experienced this kind of “incubation”. Nonemotional cognitive feelings (Selden, McKee, & Selden, 2010), such as those mentioned above can play a considerable role in proof construction, but we do not have space to discuss them here.

quality, water quantity, natural areas and wildlife, and sewer system (D’Andrea, et. al., 2004b). A num- ber of strategies were developed, which represent- ed a mix and varied level of implementation for the categories within the hierarchical framework of stormwater management: source, conveyance and end-of-pipe controls. Through computer simu- lation modelling, the effectiveness of the strategies in achieving the previously defined water quality objectives were assessed, and the costs estimated. A 25 year implementation Plan was developed, fol- lowing extensive public consultation, based on the preferred strategy. The implementation of the com- prehensive Plan (Toronto, 2003b), was estimated at over $1 billion CAD, and contained the following el- ements: public education and community outreach; enhanced municipal operations including a dry weather discharge remediation program, shoreline management, source controls (which led to the man- datory disconnection of all residential downspouts affecting an estimated 350,000 properties), convey- ance controls (e.g. protecting and enhancing the City’s extensive ditched road drainage systems, and construction of infiltration systems where appropri- ate through ongoing renewal of the City’s aging sew- er system) , end-of-pipe controls (e.g. including the construction of an estimated 180 stormwater ponds where sufficient open space was available; and un- derground storage systems for stormwater and CSOs in space constrained areas such as the downtown core), basement flooding protection works (which were expanded in scope subsequently and described in more detail below), stream restoration works (e.g. using natural channel design principles where pos- sible); and environmental monitoring. In support of the Plan, a Wet Weather Flow Management Policy was also developed to guide actions and planning by the City on wet weather flow issues, particularly in regards to the servicing and requirements for new and redevelopment areas (Toronto, 2003c). Subse- quently, Wet Weather Flow Management Guidelines were produced to direct prescribed levels of water quantity and quality control for new development (Toronto, 2006a). A summary of the progress made in implementing the Plan and priorities on a go for- ward basis can be found in Toronto (2011b).
