Parents’ Role In Fostering Young Children’s Language Development

The evidence about the beneits of parents being involved in their children’s education, and children’s literacy activities in particular is overwhelming. It is therefore important that parents and careers are aware of the signiicant contribution they can make to their children’s learning by providing a stimulating environment around language. The objective of this research was to describe the parentsrole in fostering young children’s language development. The context of this research was in Medan, Sumatera Utara and the subjects were the parents of children aged 5-7 years old. Interview and observation were used in collecting the data. “Three aspects of parenting have been highlighted as central to children’s early language and learning: (1) the frequency of children’s participation in routine learning activities; (2) the quality of caregiver- child engagements; and (3) the provision of age-appropriate learning materials” (Tamis- LeMonda, 2009:2). After analyzing the data, it was found that parents still found the diiculties in encouraging the children’s literacy and should use the appropriate media based on their need and want. Provision of various media also needs to be made to guide the parents to provide a literacy-rich and stimulating environment. Parents should have a great commitment in developing the children’s literacy gradually.

Abstrak:Learning achievement is the result obtained by the students after following a learning, such as doing an assignment and other learning activity. Learning outcome is influenced by yourself that is the existence of desire to learn and from extern that is social envi ronment’s encouragement, especially from family . The role of parents is the parents contribution in giving a good preparation for the child for the purpose of education success undertaken. The purpose of this researchis to know the existing relation betw een ParentsRole with School-Age Children’s Learning Achievement in SD Inpres I Tumaratas West Langowan Subdistrict. The method of this research is cross sectional analytical survey. Sampling technique uses total sampling. The samples are 59 respondents. Technique of data analysis is done with univariat and bivariat analysis using chi square test on a computer program. F rom the result of thisresearch, it is gained the value of p= 0.003 which shows that p value is smaller than the value of α = 0.05. The conclusion of this research that there is a relation between ParentsRole with School - Age Children’s Le arning Achievement. Recommendation for subsequent researcher, it is expected to research further at all classes. Key Word: ParentsRole, Learning Achiev ement, School Age

This is to remember that in early life is a golden age that's very easy to imitate behaviors performed by those around him. In this case the parents need to give examples of how to get along with people of different religions. Parents should provide examples of behavior to respect people of different religions. This behavior such as when there are other people of different religions are running the church, then should not interfere. Besides that, parents must also provide an example for others who do not mocking different languages, and customs. At the point that parents must set an example for not lowering the cultural identity of others who differ with children. With the planting of multicultural awareness from parents to children is expected to be able to equip our children's lives will enable them to interact with their environment properly. Children is able to accept and appreciate the different ethnic groups, cultures, religions, and beliefs. In addition, children will also be easier and easier adjust themselves socially acceptable environment.

The significance of parenting behaviours requires an understanding of the broader context within which parenting occurs. Key findings of the present study within this broader perspective include the perception among Irish parents of increased pressures on the parenting role and difficulties balancing family and work commitments. Findings clearly point to the dominance of an authoritative style of parenting among parents in Ireland. Consistent with recent theoretical developments in parenting, the significance of child characteristics in influencing parenting behaviours is also evident. Three discrete categories of parental discipline responses emerged among Irish parents: non-aggressive discipline strategies, psychologically aggressive discipline strategies and physical punishment. In keeping with findings in recent UK studies, non-aggressive inductive discipline strategies were used most frequently by the majority of parents. Such findings are worth noting in light of the positive associations highlighted between such inductive discipline strategies and children’s ability to internalise moral and social values. The relatively infrequent use of psychologically aggressive strategies also compares favourably with reported incidence in similar UK studies. Parental use of physical punishment according to self-reports of Irish parents was low (25%) when compared with similar reports in Scotland (51%) and England (58%). Child age effects were also evident with regard to the use of physical punishment. Specifically, children aged between 2 and 9 years were more likely to experience physical punishment, a finding which is reflected in previous research findings in the UK and Canada, where parental use of physical punishment is most common among children of toddler and pre-school age. Although a wide range of family and individual characteristics has been associated with the use of physical punishment in prior studies, few significant effects of these characteristics, other than child age, emerged in the present study. Trends in parental use of discipline strategies over time and across generations indicate a shift way from coercive power-assertive discipline responses. A key message from this study, therefore, in keeping with studies abroad, is that while experiencing physical punishment as a child can have a significant impact on the use of discipline strategies as an adult, the cycle of transmission across generations can be changed.

Role of Parents and Information Resources in Sex Education with Sexual Behavior of Adolescents Period in Puberty at SMAN 1 Turi

Adolescent is transition period or transition from childhood to adulthood. Based on the baseline study, showed that from 268 students about 66 (60%) male students said that they ever doing masturbation and 5 (1.75%) students who take counseling had ever sexual intercourse and in the academic year 2012/2013 there was 1 (0.35%) student was pregnant before marriage. The purpose of this research was to observe role of parents and information resources relationship in sex education with sexual behavior adolescents in puberty at SMAN 1 Turi. Study design was inductive with cross sectional. The samples were adolescents aged 16-19 years. The sampling technique was done by purposive sampling resulted on 73 respondents. The analysis used Multiple Regression and Partial Correlation Test. The results showed that 50 (68.5%) students with role of parents was good, information resources 38 (52.1%) students and sexual behavior of adolescent 53 (72.6%) students was good. Multivariate analysis showed that there was the relationship between role of parent and information resources with sexual behavior period in puberty at SMAN 1 Turi with p=0.000 (p<0.05). In conclusion, there was relationship between role of parents and information resources in sex education with sexual behavior of adolescent in puberty at SMAN 1 Turi.

This study has produced some novel findings on longitu- dinal links between parenting styles and psychological flexibility; however, a number of limitations are acknowl- edged. Our measure of psychological flexibility relied on self reports by adolescents, who also reported on their subjective experience of parenting. The child’s perspective provides useful insights (Barber 1996; Gray and Steinberg 1999; Buri 1991; Liem et al. 2010), but may not correspond to the parents’ reports of their own beliefs and practices, particularly regarding monitoring (Hayes et al. 2003) and decision-making autonomy (Smetana et al. 2004). Chil- dren’s characteristics, such as temperament, may bias assessment both of self regulation and of parenting (Jaffe et al. 2010) although parent reports of their own behavior and their child’s self regulation may also be biased (Fin- kenauer et al. 2005). Our options for measuring psycho- logical flexibility were restricted, due the novelty of this construct (Gloster et al. 2011). Our measure of parenting did not allow full separation of the dimensions of warmth, psychological control and behavioral control and we would recommend that future studies choose separate measures for these constructs to enable a clearer view of their rela- tive contributions.
