The term “scientific method” has come along in t he development of English language teaching for junior highschool, seniorhighschool, and vocational highschool since the introduction of the 2013 curriculum as the new “ umbrella ” of schooling system in Indonesia. Scientific method in learning is considered the procedure of acquiring learning outcomes which values much on the process of learning and student- centeredness so that it can facilitate and develop students’ cognitive, affective, and psychomotor capability. As the new curriculum has been initiated, the use of scientific method becomes prominent with regards to the decree of Minister of Education and Culture No. 69/2013 that requires the integration of scientific method into all subjects including English language teaching. Consequently, English teachers currently are required to conduct successful instruction through scientific method in order to help students gain their target language mastery.
They never differ the use of at and in for location. At is used with home, work, and school . In is used with the room ( kitchen , classroom , hall, and bedroom ). In is also used with the cities/provinces , state, and continent. At is usually with location in city : at the post office ,at the bank ,at the library, at the book store, at the park,. at the theatre , at the restaurant , at the football stadium . A speaker uses in with a building only when it is important to say that someone is inside , not out- side the building , in the bank = inside the bank building . Thus, the sentences should be written:
The English electronic school textbooks or known as BSE ( Buku Sekolah Elektronik ) for seniorhighschool are used by students in Indonesia since this kind of book is downloadable free in the internet. Due to that reason, this study intends to evaluate the language use in the book by means of appraisal analysis. The focus of attention will be on the representation of humanistic values in the book. The values are necessarily to promote due to the fact that textbooks become one of resources for students to build their characters as language enables humans to express their conscious awareness of emotions (Dong, 2006). Consequently, what the book presents influences the stud ents‘ attitudes towards certain issues. This research attempts to find out what humanistic values are promoted in the book and how the writers‘ attitudes are represented to show the humanistic values. The analysis shows that the book presents three values: respecting others, nature and social issues. The writers‘ attitudes towards the values are dominated by affect: 87% in respecting other people and 73% in respecting social issues. To respect nature, the writers‘ attitudes are shown in appreciation, present ed in 71%.

Based on the interview with some students of class XI IPA 2 SMA Negeri 3 Pontianak, the researcher found out some causes of the problems dealing with writing skill. The first reason is the limited time allotment for writing. Teachers spent little or no time teaching students to write. They expected their students to plan and compose their assignments outside class. It means the students have a little practice in writing at school. Another reason is that the teacher uses monotonous technique or media in teaching writing. It makes students bored and unmotivated to learn. In many schools in Indonesia, the teachers still use traditional media in teaching writing such as pieces of papers; although there are various media that can be used by the teachers to help the students in organizing ideas, motivating the students, and lessen their boredom in writing.
the achievement of reading will also be high. Otherwise , if the students’ vocabulary achievement is low, the reading achievement will also be low. These findings show that vocabulary contributes well on the successful reading comprehension. It is in line with what Mehrpour, Razmjoo, and Kian (2011, p. 105) point out and what Shen (2008, p. 137) concludes which had been stated in Chapter II. These findings also lead us to learn that a person’s
English has already become one of the most widely taught, learnt and spoken language in the world today. It is used as a first language by over 300 million people in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK and the USA, and as a second or foreign language by over 700 million people in the countries of Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America, and of the island nations of the world (Kachru and Nelson 2006). Because of the number of English users (both native and non- native speakers) is high, the use of English as the medium of communication between those people who have different cultural background is unavoidable. This condition automatically makes English as a lingua franca. In order that the communication between native and non-native or non-native and non-native speakers becomes mutually intelligible, a good command on communicative competence is required to both participants.
In the course of history since 1945 (Independence Year), the national curriculum of Indonesia had undergone change several times, namely in 1947, 1952, 1964, 1968, 1975, 1984, 1994, 2004 and the latest curriculum of KTSP 2006 (best understood as School Based Curriculum). Those amendments are logically consequences of political issue, government system, social cultural, economic, science and technology change in the living of state community (Soekisno, 2007). Therefore, the curriculum as a set of educational plans should be developed dynamically in accordance with the demands and changes that occur in society. All I ndonesia’s national curricula a re designed based on the same foundation, namely Pancasila (Philosophical foundation of the Indonesian Republic) and the 1945 constitution; the principal differences among those curriculums were only on emphasizing of educational goals and approaches to realize it.
