In urban networks, the flow is controlled by trafficlights. This can be considered as one possibility to reduce the traffic problems. But unfortunately, traffic engineers are often forced to question if the capacity of the network is exploited by the chosen control strategy. One possible method to answer such questions could be the use of vehicular traffic models in control systems as well as in the planning and design of transportation networks. For almost half a century, there were strong attempts to develop a theoretical framework of traffic science [3,7]. For some simulation works, the reader could refer to [1,7]
Adaptive trafficlights based on wireless communications with the vehicles can employ greater flexibility than the ones mentioned above as they are provided with more information for the signal decision process (e.g. vehicles positions and speeds). The cost is also significantly lower considering loop detectors are usually installed in the asphalt under each lane approaching the intersections and cameras require high processing power. If all vehicles will be equipped with wireless communication devices, then all that is needed is wireless devices with some processing power in intersections.
In addition, camera sensors are imperfect and the environment may not be benign to capture good images. The images are al- ways noisy especially when low cost cameras are used. Also, motion blurriness deteriorates the image quality when the plat- form moves. Additionally, camera lens distortion may change geometry of the traffic light if it is not calibrated. In addition, the traffic light has low resolution when it is far from the camera and the low resolution trafficlights may not maintain the shape cue. Furthermore, the lighting situation may create problems that impede correct detection of the trafficlights. For instance, the images can be overexposed during sunrise and sunset when the sun is low. Also, colors are not observed identical in daylight and nightlight.
Nowadays, vehicles in Malaysia have rapidly increasing, particularly in large urban areas such as Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Penang and others. Therefore, there must be a need to arise for a simulating and upgrading system for the traffic controllers for a better accommodation regulating on the increasing demand by road users around the world. Trafficlights are commonly used device to regulate roadway intersection traffic and pedestrians crossing with a view to both safety and smoothness of vehicle flow for generations where it is still considered the best traffic flow which can enhance their quality of life and less traffic congestion and therefore reduce the possibility of accidents and saving the life. Other than that, pedestrians are an important user of the transportation system in the big city and probably will continue as one of the most important transportation in urban areas and cosmopolitan area. Walking will continue to be the important transportation to reach to the destination. This is because certain people in busy city will like to walk instead of driving to reach their destination without having traffic jam. Moreover, for people who are having a very short travel length in the urban environment more suited to walk than take a taxi and bus or any other facility. Provision of pedestrian facilities is adequate and secure urban environment can be said will encourage more people to walk, thus increasing pedestrian traffic. Pedestrians are often become the most important of all the transportation system users, and often the most neglected. Traffic light is a road signal for directing vehicular traffic by means of coloured lights. Usually, red for stop, green for go and amber (yellow) for prepare to stop. These were standardized in 1935 in an early edition of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices . Making traffic signals look basically the same all across the country meant that drivers didn't have to figure out an unfamiliar signal. They could recognize a standard signal and react appropriately, which made driving safer. Trafficlights have become a necessary and valuable tool all around world in order to reduce the number of accidents.
