The Impact of Climate Variability on The Livelihood Structure of Farmers Households and Patterns of Adaptation

FARMERS’ ADAPTATION STRATEGIES TO CLIMATE CHANGE AND FOOD SECURITY OF HOUSEHOLDS OF ORGANIC RICE FARMERS IN TANGGAMUS REGENCY (ORDINAL LOGIT MODEL APPROACH)

FARMERS’ ADAPTATION STRATEGIES TO CLIMATE CHANGE AND FOOD SECURITY OF HOUSEHOLDS OF ORGANIC RICE FARMERS IN TANGGAMUS REGENCY (ORDINAL LOGIT MODEL APPROACH)

The devastating impact on global warming, deforestation, a forest fire has changed the climate in Indonesia which becomes the sensitive issues in crop production (Nurdin 2012). The Climate Laboratory in Bogor Agricultural Institute stated that during 1981-1990 every regency in Indonesia experienced a reduction in rice production annually of 100,000 tons. During the period of 1992-2000, this reduction in rice production averaged 300,000 tons per year (UNDP Indonesia 2007) three times the annual loss in a previous decade. Besides having an effect on agricultural sector especially plantation subsector, climate change also affecting food security. As rainfall decreases which escalate the drought risk and consequently lowering crop yield, food stock and community accessibility on food, climate change will speed up Indonesia’s progress on poverty and food insecurity. Therefore, the Indonesian government has to take climate change challenge seriously by putting the climate adaptation into agenda and promote sustainability of land usage. Climate change will act as a multiplier of the existing threat toward food security. In 2050, the risk of poverty is projected to increase 10-20%, and malnutrition of children will be 20% higher compared to the absence of climate change. The key to reaching national food security under the climate change is to decrease the vulnerability of rice production, broaden the distribution of rice which leads to increase in food accessibility (WFP et al. 2009).

The Impact of Management on CSR.

The Impact of Management on CSR.

The difference of CSR may also be perceived by across managers in the same category of company. Top managers tasked to make a company’s policy (including CSR matters) may be thwarted by those assigned the task to of getting the job done (at lower managerial level) (Collins et al., 1973; cited in Ostlund, 1977, and 1978). Specifically, Collins et al. (1973) contended that different attitude between the categories of managers can lead to gap between corporate social policy and implementation of the policy. Therefore, the corporate social policy can be sabotaged by uncooperative employee charged with implementing the policy (Collins et al., 1973; Ostlund, 1978). The difference of CSR perceived by top managers and operating (middle level or lower level executive) managers can be resulted from two folds: (1) lack of incentive for such managers, in that successful social programs are rarely rewarded as straightforwardly as successful profit oriented activities, and (2) middle managers may not share their chief attitude toward the corporate responsibility due to the different value they have (Collins et al., 1973; Ostlund, 1977 and 1978). The last reason is consisted with the view of Hemingway et al. (2004) asserting that manager’s personal value can influence CSR.

The Impact of Changing Economic Structure on Distribution Income Inequality In Indonesia

The Impact of Changing Economic Structure on Distribution Income Inequality In Indonesia

Economic development does not solely pursuit the economic growth, but it must also create a more equitable distribution of income among the people. During 2002-2011, both at nationally and at the provincial level, the level of income distribution inequality in Indonesia remains high and continues to increase. Even in 2011 the Indonesian average gini index reached 0.41 which is the highest gini index that Indonesia has. Mean while, the Indonesian economy has been undergoing structural changes, which is marked by the declining of the primary sector’s contribution and the increasing contribution of other sectors. It can be seen from the data of Indonesian GDP during the 2002 to 2011 period. Most provinces in Indonesia experienced changes of contribution and some provinces had changes of the dominant sectors, although there are some provinces which had not experienced a change in their economic structure. Based on the problems mentioned above, this study’s aims areμ 1) analyze the pattern of changes in the economic structure and the pattern of income distribution in Indonesia, and 2) to analyze the impact of changes in the economic structure on the income distribution in Indonesia.

Coaching: Coaching is the process of one-on-one guidance and instruction to improve knowledge, skills and work performance. Coaching is becoming a very popular means of development, and often includes working one-on-one with the learner to conduct a needs assessment, set major goals to accomplish, develop an action plan, and support the learner to accomplish the plan. The learner drives these activities and the coach provides continuing feedback and support. Usually coaching is directed at employees with performance deficiencies, but also used as a motivational tool for those performing well. Coaching methods solve precise problems such as communication, time management and social skills. Executive coaching generally takes place on a monthly basis and continues over a period of several years. Often, coaches are brought in where there is a change in the structure of the company, when a team or individual is not performing well or where new skills are required. Coaching assumes that you are fine but could be even better (Kirwan, 2000).

The Impact of on the Job Training on Emp

The main objective of this study was to investigate the impact of on-the-job training on employee performance. It was a case study conducted at Riley’s Hotel at Maun; a tourist destination in the North Western part of Botswana. The researchers used a questionnaire to collect data. The results of the study indicated that to a large extent Riley’s Hotel implemented on the job training and that the majority of employees have attended the training. There is also an indication that most of the employees believe that on the job training makes them effective in their jobs. Too much work and time constraints were revealed as challenges to the successful implementation of on the job training. Employment of trained staff was suggested as a major possible solution to the challenges of on the job training. The study concludes that even though on the job training was implemented at Riley’s Hotel there were a number of challenges militating against its perfect implementation. This study would benefit any organization interested in on-the-job training and employee performance.

The Advantage Of Agrobusiness For Farmers On The Subak System Of Bali.

Of course it is right if during this time subak is said as traditional irrigation organization which has the characteristic of socio-agraris-religious. Whereas it does not closed the possibility that in the future, subak is also needed to develop itself becominng to economic oriented organization which it is not only carry out the base function as irrigation water manager but it has to be carried out without sacrificing the characteristic of socio-agraris-religious. The form of business-organization which is suitable with the economic-social condition in Indonesia is farmer cooperation because the business is mainly for fulfilling the need of member farmer. Monitoring the Impact of the Forests and Climate Change Programme (FORCLIME), Technical Cooperation Module

To be honest, I don’t know much about the FORCLIME programme in Kapuas Hulu. What I do know is that it’s a collaboration involving several regional government units. My own interaction with FORCLIME was when we were setting up the Ecotourism Working Group. This is a multi-stakeholder working group. It has a common vision of ecotourism that prioritizes community- based environmental sustainability. The Ecotourism Working Group was set up in 2014 and has produced an Ecotourism Development Roadmap for Kapuas Hulu. One of the people involved in the working group is a FORCLIME staff member. I communicate frequently with him. We discuss programmes that could be implemented. The FORCLIME programme is very relevant to the ecotourism programme. We don’t have a grand design for the development of Lake Sentarum ecotourism as a key destination yet. It would be difficult to develop Lake Sentarum National Park if we only adopted partial policies. The responsibility for tourism has always been given to us, even though tourism development is multi-sectoral. GIZ once offered to help find a consultant for this, but it never happened.

The Perception and Contribution of Community Forest on the Welfare of Farmers in Merapi Volcano’s Slope

The Perception and Contribution of Community Forest on the Welfare of Farmers in Merapi Volcano’s Slope

Pressure on forest resources causes overexploitation, so that forest resources can’t provide optimal benefits. High demands for timber have created opportunity for the development of community forests in Indonesia. The opportunity has been used relatively well by community forest farmers, such as in Cangkringan Sub-District, Sleman Regency. This study was aimed to learn the economic condition of community forest farmers by calculating income balance, expense, welfare, and perception of community forest farmer family. The data of this study was collected using purposive sampling method, with a total of 60 respondents. Secondary data was collected from related government agencies. The research result showed that most community forests useagroforestry system.Sengon, which is the main community of community forest, serves community savings, which is knownas “tebangbutuh” system. 51% respondents agreed to the perception of the importance of community forest.Comprehensive calculation produced positive value, which is bigger than 100% for total percentage of income on expense. Using Sajogyo’s line of poverty, over ¾ (three fourth) of community forest farmer respondents were above the line of poverty or were able to meet their minimum primary needs.

Perceptive of farmers and feasibility on the development of patchouli tissue culture seeds

Research on response of farmer and feasibility of tissue culture seeds of patchouli was done in the form demonstration plots on farm, in Cibeurem District, Kuningan, West Java, from January to June 2011. Randomized block design (RBD) consisting of two treatments (1) Seeds derived from the tissue culture and (2) Seeds derived from cuttings shoot, repeated 10 times with 50 plants per plot each. Plant spacing, kinds and dose of manure or fertilizers were applied following the available recommendation. Response data were collected through interviews using a structured questionnaire to 18 members of farmer groups. The feasibility was measured based on the level of technical efficiency of the fresh and dry herb production per unit area, economic efficiency based on (1) income per unit area and (2) the ratio between net and gross income, and price efiiciency based on the ratio between operating expenses and gross income. The results showed that the farmers exhibited positive response to tissue culture seeds of patchouli introduced, due to better plant vigor, resistance to pests and diseases, and higher yield. Cultivation of tissue culture seeds of patchouli exhibited more efficiently than farmer cultivation, since its produced fresh herb in three times harvesting year -1 (4,927 kg 1,000 m 2-1 ) and dry herb (1,205kg 1,000 m 2-1 ), and more pricingly efficient in alocation of inputs that were 66.67% for fresh herb and 69.90% for dry herb. However, culture seeds more expensive (Rp 796,- polibag -1 ) than seeds of farmers (Rp 550,- polibag -1 ).

The legal reasoning and socio-legal impact of the fatwãs of the council of indonesian ulama on economic issues

he above discussion has shown that the fatwā s of the DSN have been issued in response to the need of Indonesian society for guidelines in Islamic economic principles. he triggers for the issuance of those fatwās are often in the forms of letters of requests by individual companies or observations of the DSN itself on the growing concern and need in society. In terms of their argument, those fatwās are strongly supported by the nuṣūṣ al-shar‘iyyah as shown by their consistent references to the Quran and Hadith. hey also follow a system of istinbāṭ (manhaj al-istinbāṭ) that has been established by the majority of ulama (Jumhūr al-’ulamā’) as shown by their consistent references to ijmā’ and qiyās whenever available after references to the Quran and Hadith. Only when ijmā’ and qiyās are not available, they go further to check the issues discussed in the works and views of classical and modern ulama. It is worth noting that references to Islamic legal theories are always made regardless of the existence of ijmā’ or qiyās. here have been no eforts in this paper to identify the possible inluence of some socio-political factors on the substance of those fatwās, but one thing is clear that

Firm value is the investor’s perception towards the degree of success of a company. According to several previous researches, free cash flow becomes one of the factors that affect firm value. Some research said that the more free cash flow generated by the company, the higher the firm value. The other research found distinct result where the higher free cash flow owned by the company, the lower the firm value. thus, there is still a conflicting result regarding the effect of free cash flow towards firm value.

The impact of engineering study on the development of self-stereotypes

The impact of engineering study on the development of self-stereotypes

The words engineering and engineer are derived from the French words: ingénierie, ingénieur. The French ingénieur (human creative mind, inventor, designer within the meaning of the designer and contractor in one) is an expression derived from the Latin ingeniosus (incl. ingegnoso) meaning a person who is trained, which again comes from the Latin ingenium (character, intelligence, talent) [14]. With the Latin language, the words engineering and engineer passed into other Indo-European languages. The semantics of the concept of engineer constitutes the basis for the search of characteristics, which are considered typical for people with this type of education. At the same time, a set of typical (and stereotypical auto- stereotypical) attributes that engineers have, can provide an important psychological mechanism that contributes to the perception of this professional group in a wider social context. Analysis of the terms used to describe engineers allows identifying their characteristics, inter alia, in terms of cognitive and emotional.

Price has been identified as an important element affecting adoption of innovative product such as Smartphone. Cleland and Bruno in Suherman (2011) agree that price and another aspect such as product and non-product aspect are considered by consumer for a purchasing product. Wickliffe and Pysarchik as cited by Tariq et al (2013) proposed that elaborate product attributes as those important features which has intensive influence on the behavior of the consumers i.e. brand and price. According to Augusty Ferdinand as cited by Sulistyari (2012), price is an important variable in marketing, where price can influence consumer in making decision to purchase a product.
