This course aims at enabling students to gain sufficient knowledge of prescriptive and descriptive linguistics as the basis knowledge of the linguistic study which is fruitful to them to contribute to their teaching practices at secondary school level and tertiary level. Added to this, The module has four main aims: (1) to provide students with an overview of theoretical models, experimental methods and current issues in linguistics in relation to foreign language teaching, (2) to enable students to understand and assess current scientific debates in the field, (3) to help students understand and appreciate the relationship between linguistic data and language learning and teaching theories and models, and (5) to provide students with the necessary background for studying linguistics, discourse analysis or related topics at an advanced level.
