Meeting with Ministry of Labor Officials for Joint Cooperation
MOEW technical division/ external auditing Masafi, held a meeting with the inspection department officials of the ministry of labor on 30th March 2010. The meeting was conducted for joint cooperation with MOL for better implementation of the regulatory guidelines for the quarrying industry. The main topics discussed were negative environmental impacts from the quarry operations and adopting a good health and safety regulations. Also MOEW exhibited the online crusher system on MOEW website showing the updated environmental ratings of the quarries in the UAE. This will be the reference for the local authorities & the concerned ministries for issue and renewal of licenses and permits. MOL officials agreed to cooperate with MOEW technical division in enforcing the regulatory guidelines. MOEW submitted the copies of the new regulatory guidelines for the quarrying industry on CD to MOL officials.
During the inspection of quarries by MOEW auditors, MOEW will report to MOL in case of any violations with respect to labor laws and MOL inspectors will report to MOEW in case of any environmental violations by the quarry operators.
MOEW technical division is also finalizing a health & safety regulatory guidelines for the quarrying industry. MOL will provide their regulations with respect to labor accommodation, safety & health requirements for including into the guidelines. A formal letter was sent by MOEW to MOL for extending their cooperation to jointly reach the objectives of the ministries.
MOEW has finalized the environmental regulatory guidelines for the cement industry and will start implementing the regulations by April 2010. Also other industries will be covered at a later date.
