Well-known Rustenburg citizen dies in aeroplane crash
The Rustenburg motorcycle and aeroplane fraternity and the many friends André has made during his stay in Rustenburg, were still in shock on Monday morning following his untimely death over the weekend.
Denoon and some fellow pilot friends, have enjoyed a fl y-in to the Brits Aerodrome on Saturday morning and enjoyed the usual early morning breakfast before taking off and returning to Rustenburg. In the few moments
that followed, Denoon’s Pitts aeroplane a dual-winged aircraft, seemed to struggle to gain altitude and crashed into the backyard of a Rashoop residence just outside Brits after clipping a Stinkwood tree and the roof of a pigeon den on the property. The incident happened just before 10:00 on Saturday morning, Rustenburg Herald was told.
Denoon was a well-known and popular Rustenburg ambassador, a businessman of note and a very skilled motorcycle rider. He was a regular racer on the South African motorcycling racing circuit. André will be buried at 12:00 on Friday, 28 August, from the Bergsig congregation in Rustenburg. He is survived by his wife Tanya and two daughters.
BONUS - RUSTENBURG - Forty fi ve year-old Rustenburg motorcycle enthusiasts, representative of the motor industry fraternity and husband and father - André Denoon, has died in a freak aeroplane accident just outside Brits on Saturday morning.

Three in Rustenburg court for public violence
Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone, spokesman for the North West Police, told the Rustenburg Herald that the suspects were arrested on Wednesday, 19 August, following an in-depth investigation after a series of public violence incidents which saw properties being damaged and burnt earlier this month.
“The violence erupted between Wednesday, 5 and Tuesday, 18 August 2015 in Dikhibidung Informal Settlement near Sunrise Park in Rustenburg after a meeting between the community and local municipality representatives,” explains Col Mokgwabone.
It is alleged that the community demanded
during that meeting to be employed at the local sewerage plant. The properties that were damaged during that period 5 until 18 August 2015 include burning of two municipal trucks, a park home, an ambulance and pelting of municipal car with stones.
Meanwhile, a 32-year-old Tshegofatso Mangole who was apprehended on Saturday, 16 August 2015 for malicious damage to property, appeared in the Rustenburg Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 19 August 2015. He was remanded in custody until Monday, 24 August 2015. Police are monitoring the situation to ensure stability.
BONUS – RUSTENBURG – On Friday, 21 August, three suspects between the ages of 26 and 36 appeared in the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court on charges of public violence, the Rustenburg Herald was told.

Assault cases postponed –
again
BONUS – RUSTENBURG – The Rustenburg Herald has come to understand that the cases of a 68-year- old suspect accused of indecently assaulting three minors and the case of the Karel, Jacobus and Vernon Strydom as well as Nico van der Merwe were both postponed in the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court last week.
The case of the 68-year-old suspect who appeared in court again on Wednesday, 19 August, has allegedly been postponed to 7 October. As was reported by the Rustenburg Herald in July, the suspect appeared in court on Tuesday, 14 July, where members of Staan Saam Rustenburg protested outside court.
Meanwhile, the four suspects who fi rst appeared in court on 12 May, have allegedly seen their case postponed once again until Tuesday, 25 August.
Anglo sells Norte, eyes
more job cuts
BONUS – RUSTENBURG – Reports in the national media are claiming that mining giant Anglo American Plc intends to shed over 50 000 jobs, a third of its workforce, by allegedly selling 15 mines by the end of 2016.
This follows Anglo’s announcement that it had sold its Norte SA copper mining operations in Chile to an investor consortium led by Audley Capital Advisors LLP for as much as $500 million.
Norte consists of the Mantoverde and Mantos Blancos copper mines located in northern Chile.
Mark Cutifani, Chief Executive of Anglo American, said: “The sale of our Norte copper assets to the Audley consortium represents a good outcome for Anglo American, both in terms of the up-front value achieved, the potential upside geared to the copper price and the continued delivery of our asset disposal programme.”
Meanwhile, reports claim that Anglo American Platinum is still struggling to fi nalise the sale of its Rustenburg and Union mines as it continues to postpone a transaction that the company announced would be completed by mid-2015.
Lonmin’s market value at
“ridiculous” levels
BONUS – RUSTENBURG – At least one analyst has allegedly described the fall of platinum producer Lonmin’s market value to just R3.2 billion, approximately half that of the Royal Bafokeng Platinum (R6.3 billion), as “ridiculous”.
Lonmin shares fell another 20% on Wednesday, 19 August, which reports claim bring the loss in market value to 73% since July 2015. What used to be the world’s third largest platinum producer has been under
pressure for weeks as reports claim Lonmin will need to consider a rights issue in order to raise capital.
However, with its share value plummeting, analysts have allegedly questioned whether
Lonmin will be able to raise enough capital to cover its debts. With the company’s share already trading at a fraction of its earlier prices one can only wonder at what levels the company will sell during the rights issue.
Church builds a fairy tale castle
BONUS - RUSTENBURG - Dreams sometimes do come true, but it takes hard work and commitment. At the congregation of the Hervormde Kerk Rustenburg- Suid in Kock Street, the congregation has literally built a dream to entertain the Rustenburg Public and especially the children who will be attending the church’s fair this Saturday, 29 August.
“ We have decided to build our own
“Disney castle” to put everyone in Rustenburg in the mood to become a child again and to join the congregation in a weekend full of fun and play”, invites Dr Anet Dreyer-Krüger of Rustenburg-Suid.
Come and visit our purple castle on Friday, 28 August, to experience the band Adam performing live. Gates open at 17:00. Call Frikkie at 082 445 4336 or 014 592 6900 for tickets. On Saturday, 29 August, we have our own “Fairy tale” Fair
from 08:00! Lots of entertainment, rides, games and prizes for kids and adults!
On Saturday the entrance into the caste is free, but beware, on the inside fairy tales can become a reality! But whatever you do - make sure that you bring your wallet along - it is very unlikely that you are not gong to bump into something that you would really love to enjoy with a cup of tea, coffee, cold drink or perhaps something more traditional like home- brewed ginger beer! The congregation eagerly awaits your visit!
‘Khumbula’ at Cross Kine
BONUS - RUSTENBURG - During August Cross Kine Rustenburg will be showing the fi lm, “Khumbula” on 28 and 29 Augustus at 18:30.
The fi lm will be screened at Agape, 99 Cuckoo Avenue and tickets are available at only R35 per person.
The fi lm is suitable for the whole family, especially fathers and their sons. Refreshments will be on sale.

Fancy a new pair of “wheels” at Safari Spar?
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG -Wow, it’s already the month of August - the year is rushing by, the economy is not doing all that well and you still don’t have that new car that you have promised your wife, your girlfriend or yourself.
Well, don’t you worry Mario - there’s a “spick-&-span”
brand new Suzuki Celerio up for grabs to Safari Spar pa- trons and you could very well be the new owner (while you’re doing the daily shop- ping chores at Spar, that is...).
Basically, all that you have to do to qualify for the Grand draw of the Suzuki Celerio is to spend in the region of R200 at your friendly Safari Spar (inquire at par- ticipating stores) or the 14 participating stores at the Safari

Whatever you do - be sure to shop at the Safari Spar Shopping Centre as soon (and as often) as possible and inquire how much you need to spend to qualify for the com- petition.
In addition to the Safari Spar, partici- pating stores are Bernina, Spec Savers, Wimpy, Top Treat, Tuine Apteek, Biltong Bar, Water2go, Barrel & Bull, Liquor City, DIY Depot, Fishaways, Huizemark and Clicks.
