ACADEMIC BOARD

Provide advice and assistance to the Dean of Residence Halls as appropriate. To organize the submission of an annual summary report to the Council on the functioning of the Halls of Residence.

To consider proposals submitted by the Boards of Studies regarding the awarding of Faculty Medals to students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and to recommend to the Academic Council the awarding of Faculty Medals in response to nominations. The Council may direct that a copy of such Rule shall be posted for a specified time on appropriate Notice Boards in the premises of the college. The staff members of the college and the enrolled students of the college who must be appointed as members of the Council in accordance with the Education Act 1964-1984 are elected in accordance with this By-law.

POLICY STATEMENTS

Students assigned a grade of 2 will have failed to demonstrate satisfactory levels of achievement in many of the objectives identified as essential to passing the unit. Students assigned a grade of 1 will have failed to demonstrate satisfactory levels of achievement in most of the objectives identified as essential to passing the unit.

EDUCATIONAL SERVICES

Where necessary, training in the use of the Resource Center's equipment can be arranged with the staff. The Resource Center uses the Dewey Decimal classification system to organize its collection materials.

SOURCES OF ASSISTANCE FOR STUDENTS

The main form of financial assistance to students is that offered by the Commonwealth Department of Employment, Education and Training through AUSTUDY. Furthermore, assistance provided by the College as special grants must not exceed 10% of the total assistance made available in any year.

THE UNION

Staff at the Union Office can direct students to someone who can help with AUSTUDY enquiries. Services are not a static thing, so students should keep an eye on notice boards, DeCae and notices in the Union offices for news.

CONSTITUTION OF THE UNION

PART 1 - PRELIMINARY

The objectives of the Union are:-. a) to investigate, recommend and negotiate improvements, where possible, on matters relating to the welfare of students of the College;. Subject to this Constitution and Regulations under this Constitution, the Union shall have the management and control of its affairs, concerns, properties and finances and may act in all matters relating to the Union in such manner as is best intended to advance the interests and purposes of the Union.

All powers referred to in PART III, Section 1 of this Constitution are subject to the following obligations to the College Council:-. a) presentation of budgets to the college council at times that the college council wishes. Such budgets shall indicate in detail the disbursements of all funds available to the Union.

Any member of the association who is granted academic leave from a course by the college in order to take up an administrative position in the association will be required to pay directly to the association the equivalent of a part-time student.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE UNION. a) The association's ordinary general meeting is convened in September or October. The General Assembly has a quorum of 50 members of the Union, including executive members and representatives.

CAMPUS PRESIDENTS, CAMPUS ORGANISERS AND UNION COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVES

CAMPUS PRESIDENTS

The Union shall be responsible for the authorized acts of its servants, agents and honorary officials and shall indemnify them in respect of payments and personal debts incurred by them: -. (a) in the normal and proper conduct of the Union's business; And. (b) in or upon anything done by them for the preservation of the property of the Union, except that such indemnity shall not extend to expenses exceeding one hundred dollars per annum without the express approval of the Union Council.

CAMPUS ORGANISERS

A campus organizer is considered to have vacated his office if he is absent, without leave, from three consecutive campus student meetings. i) Where the conduct of a Campus Organizer is considered prejudicial to the interests of the Union, or the Campus Organizer is considered incompetent or unable to discharge the duties of a Campus Organizer, that Campus Organizer may be dismissed by a resolution passed at a Campus Student Meeting, provided that:-. i) such motion shall be passed if not less than two-thirds of the voting members present vote in favor of the motion. ii) at least seven days' notice has been given of the proposal of the intention to present the proposal at the Campus Student Meeting, and (iii) the organizer in question has been given at least seven days' written notice of the right to either participate in and present a case to the Campus Student Meeting or submit a written statement which must be read out for such a meeting. The provisions of PART VII - Section 12 of this Constitution shall apply to campus organizers.

UNION COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVES

PART X - ELECTIONS

All Union elections shall be held in accordance with the Regulations pursuant to this Constitution. A candidate for election is nominated in writing for this position and this nomination is signed by two ordinary members of the Union.

V – Section 1 (g) of this Constitution, shall have the right to stand for election, notwithstanding that the person shall not simultaneously hold any combination of the two positions of either Executive Officer, Campus President, or Campus Organizer. The audited financial statements are published in the annual report of the Association and are submitted to the annual general assembly by resolution for acceptance or otherwise.

PART XII - ALTERATIONS TO THE CONSTITUTION

In respect of the financial year ended on that date and shall present the audited statements of accounts at a meeting of the Union Council;. e) The audited statements of accounts shall be published in the Annual Report of the Union and shall be placed before the Annual General Assembly for a decision on acceptance or otherwise. Provided that nothing herein contained shall be construed so as to prevent the repayment to any member of out-of-pocket expenses and interest or money borrowed or the hire of goods or rent for premises lost to the Union.

PART XIII - REGULATIONS

The income and property of the Union, however derived, shall be applied only to the achievement of the objectives of the Union as herein provided and no part thereof shall be paid or transferred directly or indirectly by way of dividend, bonus or otherwise by way. of profit for or between members of the Union. Provided that nothing herein contained shall prevent the payment in good faith of interest to any such member in respect of moneys advanced by such member to the Union or otherwise owing by the Union to such member or of remuneration to any officer or servant of to the Union or to any member of the Union or other person in return for any service actually rendered to the Union.

ACCOMMODATION

The Residence Dean, Administration Officer and seven Residential Advisers are responsible for the welfare of students at the Residence Halls. Residential Advisers provide tutorial assistance in a wide range of subjects and students are encouraged to participate in a variety of social, cultural and sporting activities.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

Cheap accommodation in Brisbane is limited and students are advised to arrange accommodation early in the year.

CENTRES FOR PROMOTION OF RESEARCH AND LEARNING

The Center for Studies in Teaching is located in Rooms A302-A308 at the Kelvin Grove Campus. The Center also runs a variety of in-service programs for teachers under the auspices of the Queensland Department of Education and the Queensland In-Service Education Committee.
