The University's Biosafety Committee ensures that the activity in question complies with the requirements of the national gene technology regulator. The university's indicators are expected to be revised as part of QUT's roadmap renewal in 2010. The university's governing body, QUT Council, includes members of the general community, graduates, staff and students.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
DEPUTY VICE-CHANCELLOR (INTERNATIONAL AREA AND DEVELOPMENT) Mr. Scott Sheppard. RESEARCH AND COMMERCIALIZATION) Professor Arun Sharma. PRODEKALJKA (TECHNOLOGY, INFORMATION AND LEARNING SUPPORT). FINANCE AND RESOURCE PLANNING) Mr. Stephen Pincus.
HOW WE ARE ORGANISED
The money was reinvested in teaching and learning improvements with the majority going directly to faculties and the rest invested in strategic learning and teaching projects. The project has had a significant impact on teaching and learning practices in the first year, and there is promising evidence of reductions in initial attrition rates in almost all faculties. Its task is to improve student learning outcomes by improving the quality of teaching and curriculum.
LEARNING AND TEACHING PLAN
This money is reinvested in teaching and learning improvements, with $1.1 million going to faculty as reward, incentive or course improvement funds. In mid-2009, the Vice-Chancellor announced a further consolidation of learning and teaching support activities, moving the learning and teaching development staff, grants and awards, programs and events teams from Teaching and Learning Support Services (TALSS) to the OTQ. The project had a significant impact on teaching and learning practices in the first year, and there is compelling evidence that the interventions had a significant impact on student persistence, progress and in some cases a positive impact on levels of achievement had.
INTRODUCTION
The faculty is heavily involved in developing design concepts to provide state-of-the-art facilities for learning, teaching and research. The Center will enable schools and other educational entities to access the Faculty's extensive professional expertise. The sustainability of commissioned learning and teaching projects 'Supporting learning in the real world' is addressed through the development of an integrated framework.
RESEARCH AND INNOVATION PLAN
Associate Professor Nuala Byrne was elected President of the Australia and New Zealand Obesity Society (ANZOS), the leading scientific body in the field. Professor Byrne is only the second non-medical president in the society's history. Some of the intensive units are taught by experts from Intellectual Property Australia (IPA) and WIPO.
PEOPLE AND CULTURE PLAN
Communication with international students about safety issues is ongoing and the wider QUT community is made aware of the university's commitment to cultural diversity and anti-racism. QUT's number of AusAID-sponsored students continues to grow and exceed the university's AUSAID target. In addition to the $17 million QUT received in 2008 as part of the Better Universities Renewal Fund, the university received
FINANCE AND
In 2009, QUT announced the development of a science and technology precinct at the Gardens Point campus, which will be one of the largest capital development projects that QUT has undertaken. As part of this new strategy, QUT will borrow funds to help finance the construction of the major capital projects of Phase Two of the Science and Technology and Creative Industries Zone. QUT's key performance indicators will also be reviewed in light of the new Plan and Federal Budget 2009 announcements.
INFRASTRUCTURE PLAN
Working with government and commercial partners, QUT continued to contribute to the development of Kelvin Grove Urban Village. The relevant items will be considered for inclusion in the new financial and infrastructure plan after QUT's plan is revised in 2010. In terms of the economic dependence target (on Australian Government funding), the result in 2009 was 57.9 per cent below the target of 61.1 per cent.
INTERNATIONAL STRATEGY
The International and Development Division has begun phase four of the International Strategy Information System (ISIS). Completion of the Medical Engineering Research Facility (MERF) and the installation of a fiber link ensured high-speed access to QUT for researchers in the facility. In 2009, good progress was made towards the objectives of the Research Support Plan and the University continued to build research capacity.
INFORMATION
One of the key issues addressed in developing the new system was obtaining the credentials of member universities to ensure trusted access to data. A key result was the successful trial of the power management tool in the central student computer labs. The test showed a reduction in the energy consumption of the student laboratory by more than 40 percent.

Details of the university's exposure to changes in interest rates for interest-bearing liabilities are provided in the note on financial instruments (see note 36). Details of the fair value of interest-bearing liabilities for the university are provided in the note on financial instruments (see note 36). Lease expense provisions reflect the material difference between actual and straight-line payments for operating leases held by the University as of December 31, 2009.
Provided the University meets certain criteria, the Queensland Government can forgive 1/3 of the loan. There is 1 share out of 1,562,553 shares in GeneCo Pty Ltd that is not owned by the University. The University entered into a joint venture with the Queensland Government to develop a 16.5 hectare site adjacent to the current Kelvin Grove campus.
Upon completion of the 80-year lease, all development on the site (including the building) will be transferred to the University. At the inception of the lease, $19.460 million was paid to the developer as prepaid rent for the university's 80-year sublease. The risk sensitivity applied by the university is +/- 10%, which reflects the variability of currency market conditions in recent years.
The risk for the University is that the value of a financial instrument will fluctuate due to changes in market prices.
