ARMY VETERINARIANS FOR VIETNAM SERVICE Statement by the Minister for the Arm

the Hon Malcolm Fraser, M.P.

Experience in 'military civic action work in Vietnam has shown that assistance in the field of animal husbandry could be of real benefit to the Vietnamese people.

Accordingly, it lza.d been decided to select two appropriately qualified Army,Personnel for service with the Australian Army Civil Affairs Unit in Vietnam.

the men selected would be graduates in veterinary or agricultural

science and would o_Derate in the Phuoc Tuy Province in close liaison with the Vietnamese Province officials and their U.S. Advisers concerned with this type of work. It has been possible to provide this assistance because of the skills which have become available to the Army through National Service.
