AWARDS NIGHT 2017

Bowls SA is proud to announce the 2017 Awards Night will be held at the Donato Reception Centre, Kilkenny on Friday 12 May 2017. This prestigious event is a celebration of Bowls achievements over the past year and a chance to recognise and celebrate the outstanding performers of the 2016-2017 season.

Eligibility Period

The eligibility period for the 2017 Awards is from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016, spanning a total of 12 months. This coincides with the span of the 2015/16 Player Ranking system.

Phase One closes December 1, 2016 Phase Two closes January 27, 2017

As part of this process, we would like to call upon all members of the bowling fraternity to put forward Award Nominations for a number of awards which will be presented at this prestigious event.

• Media Story of the Year Award

AWARDS NIGHT 2017 Club of the Year Award

This award will be given to the Club who has made a contribution to the growth of the sport in South Australia in a significant and identifiable manner; including the implementation of a Bowls SA initiative or program (for example, coordinating a successful Night Owls program, GetBowledOver program, hosting a Bowls SA event etc.).

Other metrics, including but not limited to, are the demonstration of sound governance and business practices, community impact and club health check status which will be taken into account when determining this award. On-green performance and membership numbers may be taken into account, however will be of secondary importance when determining the winner.

The achievement or development of strategies in key areas including membership of the STARCLUB Club Development Program; Clubs SA; Good Sports Program; V-Star Volunteer Management Program through the Office for Recreation & Sport and have actioned a Business and or Strategic Plan.

Criteria Phase One

To meet the initial criteria the Club must be a member of three or more of the following. Please indicate which organisations your Club is currently a member of:

STARCLUB - Club Development Program (Office for Recreation & Sport)

Clubs SA Membership

Good Sports Program

Actioned Business and/or Strategic Plan

V-Star Volunteer Management Program (Office for Recreation & Sport)

Registered Night Owls Program

Criteria Phase Two

Please provide evidence of the Club’s commitment to a strong governance structure, i.e.

Strategic Plan, Business Plan.

Please provide details of any membership drive undertaken by your Club during the season, i.e. flyers, newspaper articles, come ‘n try.

Please provide details of any inventive competition structure established by your Club during the season to retain your current membership and attract new members across a diverse demographic.

Please provide details of any innovative initiatives implemented within the community, during the season, by your Club, i.e. partnerships with Meals on Wheels, Service Clubs, local community.

Has your Club undertaken any facilities upgrades during the season?

Administrator of the Year Award

The Administrator of the Year Award recognises a person who has made a significant

contribution to the Club and to the sport as a whole. They are an inspiration to the community for their tireless work, commitment and dedication to their Club and to the sport and often go above and beyond to change their Club for the better by encouraging, supporting and motivating others.

As a result of the nominees’ contributions, the Club and Lawn Bowls will have benefited and they will have set such standards of excellence to have set themselves apart from their peers.

Criteria Phase One

The Bowls SA Administrator of the Year will be an individual who:

• Within their unpaid role with their Club, has made a significant contribution to the Club and to the sport as a whole.

• Is an inspiration to the community for their tireless work, commitment and dedication to their Club and to the sport; and

• Goes above and beyond to change their Club for the better and encourages, supports and motivates others.

As a result of the nominees’ contributions, the Club and Lawn Bowls will have benefited and they will have set such standards of excellence to have set themselves apart from their peers.

Criteria Phase Two

• How has the Administrator made a significant contribution to their Club and the sport in the last 12 months?

• How has the Administrator demonstrated excellence setting them apart from their peers in the last 12 months?

• Describe the effect these achievements or contributions have had on the sport, the broader community, the Club and Club members over the past year.

• How does the nominee engage with other members to contribute to the successful running of the Club?

• Describe any obstacles or barriers the nominee has overcome and or difficult issues that were dealt with to achieve the stated outcomes and achievements.

Administrator of the Year

Award Innovation Award

The Innovation Award recognises a Club that has demonstrated and applied new and innovative policies, procedures and promotions which have significantly contributed to the growth of the Club and its membership, or has enhanced the benefits to existing Club members and participants in a new and creative manner.

Criteria Phase One

Please provide detail of the innovative marketing or promotional plan to enhance the benefits for the existing Club membership and potential members.

Criteria Phase Two

Each submission must include data with details of the innovation and information to support claims of success.

• What challenge did this innovation look to address?

• How and how well was the innovation product brought to fruition?

• What research, creativity, demographic targets and technologies were used as well as other strategic considerations for the campaign?

• Did the innovation achieve its objectives and goals?

• Provide a background on how the innovation was resourced and whether the outcome was financially viable.

• How sophisticated is the innovation in what is normally expected for this sport?

• How well has the innovation been received by the membership, potential members and the local community?

• Was the innovation compliant with Bowls SA guidelines and best practices for sport?

• What impact does the innovation have on future utilisation of the Club and other promotions and membership drives?

Community Spirit Award

The Community Spirit Award is a brilliant way for Bowls SA to say thanks to a Club that, as a result of a cohesive team of members and individuals, has gone that extra mile to make everyone’s lives better through developing and maintaining a strong and significant bond with the local community.

These members have through their selflessness enhanced the community spirit of the local residents.

This would include, but is not limited to, extending the use of the Club facilities to the

community, providing support to service groups, education establishments, aged care, minority groups and/or under-privileged members of the community.

Criteria Phase One

To be considered the nominee must meet the initial criteria. Please indicate the following:

• The Club has achieved a strong bond with the community through an initiative or program that has had a significant and positive effect on the community as a whole.

• The initiative or program has assisted a minority group to achieve a goal and alleviate hardship.

• The Club has demonstrated a keen understanding of the challenges and has engaged with the community to persevere and execute a solid strategy to achieve their goal.

• The outcomes and overall impact of the campaign or initiative, over the last 12 months, have shown the capacity to change the community and individuals’ lives.

Criteria Phase Two

Each submission must include data with details of the campaign and information to support claims of success.

• How was the campaign or initiative implemented?

• How successful was it and how was this measured?

• How did it contribute to making a positive impact?

• Did the campaign achieve all of its objectives and is there data to support this?

• What are the long-term benefits to the community and individuals from the initiative or campaign?

• Is this an ongoing program or campaign?

Community Spirit Award Volunteer of the year Award

The recipient of this award will have had a positive attitude to the voluntary work they complete and have been able to work independently to achieve a goal.

The nominations for this award will come from Regions, Associations, Clubs and general

membership. They will all be asked to submit nominees that have devoted their time and effort into assisting at either a state, national or international level events or in the implementation of strategic priorities outlined in the Bowls SA Strategic Plan 2013 - 2017.

Criteria Phase One

To be considered the nominee must meet the initial criteria. Please indicate the following:

• Nominee has held voluntary position for the last 12 months.

• I can confirm that the Nominee has not received remuneration.

Criteria Phase Two

• The Nominee has contributed to the administration of the sport in a voluntary capacity at Club level (please provide details):

• The Nominee has contributed to the promotion of the sport at Club level. (please provide details)

• The Nominee has contributed to other initiatives such as Club maintenance, support and general roles. (please provide details)

• Has the Nominee received any remuneration, other than reimbursement of any expenses incurred, in respect of their role?

• Has the Nominee has held the voluntary position for the last 12 months?

• What about the Nominee’s achievements, for the period, is of such a standard as to set them apart from their peers? (please provide details)

• Does the Nominee foster goodwill in the Club? (please provide details)

• Please provide any other information in support of the nomination, such as length of membership, positions held, age (if considered relevant):

Official of the Year Award

The recipient of this award will be an official that has shown outstanding officiating ability over the award period. They will have a sound knowledge of all rules and a passion for the role. This recipient must have officiated at a Bowls SA national and/or international event/s during the award period.

This award will be open to all current affiliated National Officiating Advisory Scheme officials who have umpired at a Bowls SA and/or international event during the eligibility period.

Criteria Phase One

To be considered the nominee must meet the initial criteria. Please indicate the following:

• Nominee is an Accredited Official and/or International Technical Officer.

• Nominee has been actively officiating for the last 12 months.

Officiating Accreditation Level

• International Technical Official

• Measurer

• Marker

• National Umpire

Criteria Phase Two

• Please state the Events the nominee Officiated at during the 12 month period of 1 Jan 2016 to 31 December 2016 (International, Club and State Level)

• Please provide a supporting statement in regards to the nominees professionalism, sportsmanship, passion and commitment to Officiating:

• Please provide a supporting statement of the nominees knowledge of the Laws of the Sport and competency with techniques:

• Please provide a supporting statement on how the nominee has shared their expertise and mentored new officials:

• Any additional information on the nominee:

Official of the Year Award Coach of the Year Award

The recipient of this award will be a coach that has demonstrated outstanding coaching ability over the nominated period. In particular demonstrating excellent commitment, attitude and communication skills that contribute to conducting programs that assist the development of junior, Club, and disability bowlers as well as contributing to the overall development of a club.

Criteria Phase One

To be considered the nominee must meet the initial criteria. Please indicate the following:

• Nominee is an Accredited Coach.

• Nominee has been active in the position for the last 12 months.

• Nominee has not received any remuneration for services.

Coaching Accreditation Level

• Introductory Coach

• Club Coach

• Selection/Competition Coach

• Advanced Coach

Criteria Phase Two

• Describe the major achievements of the nominated person as a coach?

• Please provide a supporting statement that the nominee has been an active qualified coach for a minimum of 12 months:

• Supporting statement of the nominee’s commitment and attitude to coaching:

• How has the nominee contributed to the club development? This could be development of junior bowlers, coaching athletes with a disability or sharing expertise and mentoring new coaches:

• What are the voluntary coaching services the nominee offers a club and club bowlers?

• Describe the innovative coaching techniques the nominee has developed/encouraged or made a part of their coaching:

• Please provide an example of when the nominee has shown professionalism and sportsmanship when coaching:

• Please summarise the nominee’s Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

Media Story of the Year Award

This award will be open to all media (print, radio or television) that have captured or written stories regarding Bowls South Australia events during the eligibility period.

The winners of this award will be awarded based on the following criteria, and will be at sole discretion of the judging panel.

Criteria Phase One

The winners of this award will be awarded based on the following criteria, and will be at sole dis- cretion of the judging panel. Please indicate the following:

• Nominee is employed or volunteers in the media industry

• Nominee has captured footage of a Bowls SA event or created a specific well-researched and outstanding Lawn Bowls related story that was published in a print publication, broadcast on radio or aired on television:

Criteria Phase Two

• Please outline the nominee’s role in the media industry.

(In as much detail as necessary, please outline the role of the nominee in the media industry including but not limited to listing their job title, employer, audience size and any other relevant information.)

• Details of Story.

(Details of the captured footage or story written relating to a Bowls South Australia event that- was published in a main-stream newspaper, magazine or aired on TV.)

Please outline why this story is significant in growing the sport of bowls.
