ETIQUETTE

1 Be conversant with the laws of the game, etiquette and observe them. Respect the decision of the umpire.

2 Be punctual to commence play at all matches and come to each game correctly attired.

3 Always allow your opponent the right to the head as spelt out in the rule book, failure to do so decreases the enjoyment of the game.

4 Walk closely to the centre of the rink with minimum delay when changing ends as you could distract play on the next rink.

5 Keep quiet and still when players are on the mat.

6 It is courtesy to stand still at the head when a player is about to bowl, movement at the head or talking at the mat is very distracting.

7 Keep your mind on the game and be ready with your bowl in hand when it is your turn to bowl.

8 Everyone at the mat end to assist in collecting bowls, behind and to the left hand side of the mat.

9 Don’t applaud unlucky bowls.

10 Respect the green surface always bend to straighten mat. Don’t drop bowls from bank to green, be careful not to walk in ditch etc.

11 If you lose, be a good loser, don’t blame your loss on other people, the green, weather conditions etc. Win or lose, always shake hands with your opponents and thank them for the game. Just as important, be a good winner, positive thinking and practice brings about good luck.

12 Off er your opponent a drink after the game is over.

13 When playing singles, be sure to thank the marker and off er him/

her a drink. Remember he/she has given up time to assist you in your game, you can repay him/her by being courteous in return.

It is also polite to thank the umpire of the day before leaving the Club.
