Calendar: Special Notice
The 1988 edition was the last in the book format. From 1989 the Calendar was produced as a looseleaf publication consisting of several sections (see the general table of contents), including the University's statutes. Since 1997 access to the Calendar has been provided largely through the University's World Wide Web site http://www.unimelb.edu.au
During 1988 there was a consolidation of the University's statutes and regulations, resulting in sixteen chapters of revised statutes and two separate volumes of Standing Resolutions. In 1995, an amendment to the Melbourne University Act required many Standing Resolutions to be formatted as Regulations again, deriving their power from a relevant statute.
There are now seventeen chapters of statutes, which are revised as needed, following receipt of Ministerial approval. For further information on the statutes see the introductory note to that section of the Calendar.
The associated regulations are also revised as needed, i.e. as changes are approved by Council.
Certain regulations are published separately because of their bulk — chapters R3 [Requirements for Degrees and Diplomas], R6 [Prizes, Exhibitions and Bursaries] and R7 [Endowments other than those for Prizes, Exhibitions and Scholarships]. They are also revised as changes are approved by Council.
Non-legislation sections of the Calendar are revised regularly, but not published more than once a year.
Revised sections, and new or amended regulations and individual statutes are updated as quickly as possible on the University's World Wide Web site, and issued to any continuing University recipients of the looseleaf Calendar. A microfiche version of the Calendar is issued once a year to individuals and organizations outside the University requiring it.
