Jetstar Patches / Passbooks /Shoebags / Sun Shelters

As previously advised, we are pleased to welcome Jetstar as the new national naming rights partner of Little Athletics. Centres have all now received a quantity of Jetstar patches for distribution to members. These patches replace the IGA patches and are to be worn at all times by all athletes, on the top right hand side of their centre uniform top.

For those who are not already aware, Jetstar are also providing a drawstring shoe bag for every registered athlete across Australia. These shoe bags are currently being delivered to various locations across the state for collection by centres.

Metropolitan centres will be able to collect their shoe bags from the LANSW office. If you have not received collection details by mid-November, please contact Chantelle at the LANSW office.

Centres will also be provided with a quantity of Jetstar Star Jump passbooks. This initiative sees athletes record in the passbook how many star jumps they can do, and then try and increase that number each week. Please make sure that passbooks are handed out to members and then include a star jump activity into your weekly activities. Next month we will be announcing a competition relating to this concept, so watch this space!

JETS Program

Dani Samuels is JETS Ambassador

We are extremely excited to announce that Dani Samuels - Commonwealth Games discus gold medallist and former Little Athlete - will be the inaugural JETS (Junior Encouragement & Talent Squad) program ambassador during the 2014/15 season.

Dani’s involvement will see her contribute an article to the monthly JETS member newsletter and also be our special guest at a JETS coaching clinic.

Of her role as the inaugural JETS ambassador, Dani said: “I am thrilled and honoured to be a part of the JETS program as the 2014/15 JETS ambassador. I am extremely passionate about the benefits Little Athletics provides young athletes and I look forward to working with you all in the upcoming season”.

Dani has been a great friend and supporter of Little Athletics over many years and we very much look forward to her involvement in this season’s JETS program.

Membership

JETS Program membership passed 100 during early October. Applications remain open throughout the season.

JETS Events

The first JETS Coaching Clinic of the new season occured on Sunday, 19 October 2014, at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre. Three 2014 Commonwealth Games team members – all former Little Athletes – were in attendance to assist. Nick Hough (110m hurdles), Michelle Jenneke (100m hurdles) and Jake Stein (Decathlon) took part in a Q&A session with the athletes and assisted with the coaching. We have also organised physiotherapist Jemma Lekkas to conduct an information workshop for parents whilst the athletes were with the coaches. Jemma discussed the topic of common adolescent sports injuries and also conducted a Q & A session.

The second JETS Coaching Clinic of the season will be held Sunday, 9 November 9.00am – 1.00pm, at Sylvania Waters Athletics Track.

Introduction to Coaching Courses

At the time of writing, 138 individuals have participated in or registered for 12 ITC (Introduction to Coaching) courses so far this season. This is a great result, made even better by the fact that eight of these courses have been, or will be, held in regional areas.

School Holiday Coaching Clinics

There were 359 young athletes who attended the nine Little Athletics NSW school holiday coaching clinics conducted during the September/October school holidays.

Thanks to all of the athletes, coaches and centre personnel for their involvement.
