Who are QUT Alumni?

QUT Alumni is a forum of QUT graduates, staff members, past and present Council members and other qualified members.

Established under the Queensland University of Technology Act 1998 and Queensland University of Technology (QUT Alumni) Statute 2008, QUT Alumni is concerned

primarily with the mutual benefit to be gained through the interaction of QUT with its graduates.

QUT Alumni aims to represent the interests of QUT graduates through its influence in University decision making processes, including those concerned with learning, teaching and applied research.

The objectives of QUT Alumni are:

to provide benefits to individual alumni by fostering their continued involvement in the University and alumni community

to recognise the achievements of QUT graduates

to be committed to the professionalism and lifelong learning of QUT graduates

to contribute to curriculum development and implementation in order to maintain its high standard and relevance to industry, professions and the community

to assist QUT in establishing and maintaining contact with alumni for fundraising purposes

to forge relationships with graduates, businesses, professions, industries,

governments and other educational institutions in pursuance of Alumni's aim and in liaison with the QUT Alumni and Development Office

to use representation on Council and faculty committees to ensure that graduate and professional viewpoints on academic and other matters are expressed

to promote the formation and activity of alumni groups representing common areas of interest between members

to link graduates, and through them industry, with the University's decision- making process

to provide a forum for debate on policy and relevant issues

to encourage social contact between graduates across the professions

to provide mentoring for current students

Membership of QUT Alumni is determined by the QUT Statute 2008. QUT Alumni is chaired by an elected President and served by a second elected council member and a Board which includes four elected members of Alumni and three alumni members appointed by the Vice-Chancellor.

The Alumni and Development Office coordinates all Alumni outreach.

21 Three post-secondary education traditions central to this past (technical education, training for primary and secondary teaching, and the kindergarten movement) resulted in a unique post-compulsory education system for Queensland. Their philosophy, pedagogy, goals and vocation professional training dominated the nineteen century entirely in a State where university education was debated but only grudgingly allowed.

During the twentieth century and until the 1960s, technical education and teacher training continued to train most of the professions in Queensland. Although such post- secondary education was always seen as separate to and second to the university, it was to remain a significant tertiary model for the state.

The Act of Parliament that provided for a fourth university in Queensland was passed in November 1988 and became the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). This new University amalgamated with Brisbane College of Advanced Education (BCAE) in 1989.

QUT is immensely proud of both its achievements in its relatively short time as a University and of its links to a much broader history of post-secondary education in Queensland.

"For us, it is seeing the individual students we support through the Learning Potential Fund succeed that has inspired us to leave a gift to QUT in our Will.

Helping them overcome tough circumstances to stay at QUT and build a new future is wonderful. To know that our bequest will help achieve this is a great source of joy"

- Ray and Penny Weekes.

When you remember QUT in your will, you are supporting future generations. Your gift, whether large or small, will make a powerful, lasting difference to the community by supporting education opportunities for students, enabling ground-breaking research and creating awareness of issues with real-world impact.

We are always delighted to be involved with visionary people who are considering making a real commitment to the community's future. After you have provided for your loved ones, please consider a gift to QUT in your will.

If you would like to know more about making a bequest to QUT, please contact:
