ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 JUNE 1994

In accordance with section 25 ( 1) of the Hospital Management Boards Act, I present the Tennant Creek Hospital Management Board Annual Report on its and the Hospital's activities for the year ended 30 June 1994.

Mrs Joyce Bowden attended meetings in her capacity as General Manager, filling the statutory position described in section 7(4) of the Act.

Mrs Kathy Stow, A/Hospital Manager, acted as Secretary to the Board.

New A1mointments, Recruitments, Resignations

Changes to the composition of the Board during the year were as follows:

Mr R Bradshaw (July 1993) and Mrs L Little (April 1994) resigned from the Board que to their departure from Tennant Creek.

Mr A Filmore retired from the Board in July 1993.

Mr Karl Herzog was elected Chairman at the Boards meeting of 1 July 1993.

Mr Barry Wright and Mr Chris Van Leishout were appointed to the Board, pursuant to section 7(1) of the Act, in November 1993.

Mrs Margaret Sheridan, retired from her position as Hospital Manager in October 1993.

The Board acknowledges the contribution of each of the members who left the Board during the year.

Hospital Activities for 1993/94 Staffin&

Staffing has remained stable. The rotational Medical Officer from Alice Springs Hospital continues. The dual role of Medical Officers servicing Hospital and Rural areas was introduced this year and provides a mechanism for continuity of care between both areas.

The Aboriginal Health Workers and Liaison Officer continued to be utilised within the Hospital.

Mrs Margaret Sheridan, Hospital Manager retired from the position in October 1993. Mrs Kathy Stow has since been acting in the position.

Study sponsorship for staff to undertake external courses continues. One staff member is undertaking post graduate studies through the University of New England.

Hospital Inspection

On Monday 6 September 1993, Mr Ray Norman, Secretary for Health and Community Services, visited Tennant Creek Hospital and undertook his annual Hospital Inspection. He was accompanied by Hospital Management Board Members and the Hospital Executives.

Day Sur&ezy Unit

Funding was obtained through Medicare incentive to refurbish the existing Recovery Ward to enable it to be converted to a Day Surgery Unit.

Quality

Mana&ement

The Hospital formalised its Quality Management activities with an identified .5 RN position.

A member of the Hospital Management Board is a Member of the Quality Management Committee.

Services

The Tennant Creek Hospital continues to service residents of Tennant Creek and the Barkly Tablelands with a range of Inpatient, Outpatient and Accident and Emergency services. Aero Medical Evacuations are undertaken by Hospital Medical and Nursing staff.

The Board acknowledges the skills and dedication of Hospital staff and management in providing an essential service.
