T h e l e v e l s o f c l o v e r s c o r c h w e r e h i g h e r t h a n l a s t y e a r w i t h o n l y 6% of i n t r o d u c t i o n s s c o r i n g 3 . 0 o r l e s s ( 8 % i n 1 9 8 6 ) , a n d 18% o f c r o s s b r e d clovers s c o r i n g 3 . 0 o r l e s s ( 2 9 % i n 1 9 8 6 ) . T h e r e a s o n m a y w e l l b e d u e t o t h e broad s p e c t r u m o f K a b a t i e l l a s t r a i n s u s e d f o r i n o c u l a t i n g t h e p l o t s t h i s year.

F u s a r i u m a v e n a c e u m h a d n o e f f e c t ( m e a n s u r v i v a l o f 60 v a r i e t i e s - 103%) w h i l e R h i z o c t o n i a s o l a n i h a d a s m a l l e f f e c t (73% survival), a n d P y t h i u m i r r e g u l a r e h a d a m a j o r e f f e c t ( 3 4 . 5 % s u r v i v a l ) . T h e r a n g e in s u r v i v a l o f v a r i e t i e s i n t h e p r e s e n e o f P y t h i u m i r r e g u l a r e w a s 7% t o 97%.
