President:

This Past month has been a very busy time for me attending to DDLBA events.

3rd July: Challenge Match DDBA/DDLBA versus Cunningham at South Toowoomba had excellent bowlers and was very interesting to watch. Well done to the DDBA for winning although the ladies were not so successful they played great bowls.

6th-7th July: Champion of Club Championship Singles played at West Toowoomba was a joy to watch although I must congratulate all the players who played under extremely cold conditions and almost looked like they had frost bite by the finish of the first day.

11th-12th July: Champion of Club Championship Pairs at South Toowoomba was great with an extra end having to be played to determine the winner. Well done to all players.

18th-19th July: I also attended the Champion of Club Championship Fours played at North

Toowoomba where the weather was very unkind once again, and making it only possible for one game to be played first day. The next day was much better and the games were all able to be finalized. Once again it was another cliff hanger.

We have indeed some great talented bowlers in our District.

Congratulations to all the players and to the Match Committee for doing an excellent job under trying conditions.

27th July: President Bev’s Friendship Day was held and what joyful camaraderie it was out on the green. Once again the weather was shocking but whilst it was cold outside it was lovely and warm inside and the delicious soup soon helped to warm us up.

Thanks to Margaret and Fay for accompanying me.

Four months already gone by. I wish I could halt time, because my year will be over before I know it.

My thought for this month:-

“Friends are like bras: close to your heart and there for support.”

Theresa Thomas – Selection Chairperson Junior Liaison Officer:

I attended a meeting at the Toowoomba Bowls Club on Friday 8th July where Andrew Howie who is the Regional Bowls Manager of South East Queensland spoke to us. He was asked if he had any advice as to how we could gain more bowlers to our sport. Some were as follows:

 Bring a friend or a family member

 Barefoot Bowls

 Keep names if you have a Social Day

 Sporting School Programs

 You may think of getting a Youth Grant

There is a school program that may take us somewhere, so this is a start.

Jan Baldock – Junior Liaison Officer The secretary has been asked to contact Bowls Queensland in getting information about the Schools Program.

General Business:

Zone Play-offs Subsidy

This district has received a request from coordinator Rose Kirstenfeldt of Maranoa/Warrego District to assist in organizing the zone 3 play-offs which are being held being in Roma. Rose has also asked for our district to supply an umpire and as our Match Chair Imelda is now a player, Kay Jenkins will be approached to help as she too is an umpire. It was moved by J Baldock, seconded G Russell that the district subsidizes our organizer/umpire for these Zone 3 play-offs. Carried

It has also being proposed that Maranoa/Warrego district be approached to contribute towards the costs for this person.

When preparing next year’s DDLBA calendar, a cut-off date will be set as to when all districts within zone 3 need to forward the names of their winners to the host district.

Recommended Changes in DDLBA Constitution

On the recommendation of the management committee which was moved by I Brumpton and seconded by D James a notice of motion in relation to change in dates for (i) the Annual General Meeting, (ii) the Financial Year and the (iii) Close of Nominations for Association Positions will be

forwarded to all clubs. Carried

Trophies for the Ch. of Club Champion events

A question was asked as to why trophies were awarded to the runners-up from the Ch. of Club Championship Pairs competition. These were donated by two individuals and as an association, it was stated that such donations be graciously accepted. A runner-up trophy for the Ch. of Club Championship Singles has been donated anonymously for many years but as that donor has been unavailable for the past two years, this trophy has continued to be presented. President Elsie has generously offered to continue donating this particular trophy in future years.

I.T. Assistance:

Jan Thomas of West Toowoomba has offered to assist in putting the Association Weekly Notes onto our website through a link from West Toowoomba’s notes. This will be put into action as soon as possible.
