THE UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES OFFICE
The board consists of twelve people from different fields and from different parts of Australia. The chief executive of the foundation is Denis Tracey and the trustee is Beth Hourigan. HONOURS DEGREES
ENROLLING IN SINGLE SUBJECTS
You can get advice on planning your studies and choosing elective courses from the head of the undergraduate study program at the Faculty of Law.
CONDITIONS ON WHICH LLB SUBJECTS MAY BE TAKEN
DEGREE OF BACHELOR OF LAWS
The faculty will not approve the enrollment of a candidate in any course which, in the opinion of the faculty, is substantially similar to another course for which the candidate has been given credit. Honors points will be awarded on the basis of the results obtained in each subject for the Bachelor of Laws Degree (except non-law subjects or law subjects for which the candidate has been granted a credit transfer).
STUDY RELATED MATTERS
In cases where a candidate would not otherwise obtain an honors degree, the Final Honors Board is empowered to waive any special circumstances such as illness of which the Board is aware and which are likely to affect the candidate's academic performance during his or her degree course. As between candidates who obtained equal honors marks, those candidates who did not obtain honors marks on the results of deferred or special examinations will be given preference in the final honors tie list. d) where a student registers for Research Project or Jessup Moot but outside the prescribed period is not allowed or is unable to continue with the subject of his or her choice;. e) where a student appears before the Progress Committee and his or her case is not determined in time for him or her to enroll or to make such adjustments to his or her enrollment as may be required by the Committee within the prescribed period not;. f) where it is discovered outside the prescribed period that a final year student has mistakenly enrolled for less than the number of subjects necessary for him or her to qualify for the degree in that year. g) where it is discovered outside the prescribed period that a student would experience unavoidable financial hardship if he or she were not allowed to increase his or her enrollment.
CREDIT TRANSFERS
Actual fee points will thus not be awarded to subjects that an exchange student completes at the other institution. Instead, that student's honors points are calculated according to the formula set out for the award of Bachelor of Laws with Honors for candidates who qualify. for the degree that has been passed in credit-rewarding subjects that give a total of credit points other than 300, i.e. However, the Honors Board has the discretion to take into account a student's performance on an exchange program for purposes of ranking that student and making an honors award.
COMPLEMENTARY STUDENTS
Students at the University of British Columbia must take a minimum of 12 credits per semester and a maximum of 18. Honors points for exchange students will be calculated primarily by reference to law courses undertaken at the University of Melbourne.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE
A year of study therefore represents 24-36 credits compared to 100 credits at the University of Melbourne Law School.
