Before commencing training for the degree, a candidate must obtain Faculty approval for the candidate's proposed course of study or research and must obtain Faculty approval for any subsequent change to such course. Candidates must satisfy the Faculty as to their ability as composers in the School (A) and thus their musical scholarship in the School (B) before they can be admitted to the examination.

Vocal students are required to enroll in modern languages ​​in addition to the subjects listed. Principles of Advanced Chromatic Harmony Based on Classical and Early Romantic Practice, and Associated Exercises. Students may be asked by the Faculty to participate in any one of the specified ensembles. Students are reminded that the length of the program must allow for breaks between works. The program must not include work carried out during the VCE (HSC) Music A examination or its equivalent.

740-240 TECHNIQUES IN MUSICIANSHIP

Programs that contain the above requirements must be submitted to the Faculty Office no later than 30 September. Students will pass or fail based on satisfactory attendance and participation in rehearsals throughout the year as well as in all performances of the ensemble in which the student is enrolled. Students must have attended each of the observation visits and attended and participated in classwork to the satisfaction of the Board of Examiners.

740-112 ACOUSTICS

Various activities will be carried out in group teaching and workshops and will deal with the development of musical skills relevant to educational and therapeutic programs, including a repertoire of songs, knowledge of commonly used chord progressions on the guitar or accordion, some familiarity with percussion techniques, gestures and practice skills related to directing choral programs and song improvisation using a variety of instruments, body percussion and voice. a) At the end of the 1st semester, a short practical test of singing skills and accompaniment on the piano, guitar or accordion (50%).

740-214 COMPOSITION — SMALL ENSEMBLES

Because the process of musical composition is a form of imaginative invention, students will not necessarily be required to accept a method that leads to imitation of existing styles. To meet the objectives outlined, students will select (in consultation with the instructor) from the areas listed a course designed to meet their specific interests and needs and approved by the faculty no later than the end of May. The number and nature of works are determined and approved together with the study program and must be submitted no later than the first day of the assessment period.

However, students will study works that are more advanced and will perform to a more advanced level of sophistication, further developing the insight into interpretation of individual styles and periods acquired in earlier years of the course. A 50-minute test at the end of the course, which can be open to the public if the candidate so wishes. An oral test of 10 minutes duration on the instrument's repertoire and history, held at the end of the first semester.

This test must be taken before a subject score can be recorded, but will not count towards the score. The master's course performance report will be forwarded to the dean at the end of the year. Students must achieve satisfactory performance in each semester before they are allowed to take the annual examinations.

Honors students are expected to perform regularly in these classes and there will be a list of dates on the notice board where students must enter their names and the works they intend to play.

To achieve a pass in the subject, at least a satisfactory level must be recorded in each section taken. A satisfactory standard must be achieved in practical work reports to gain at least a pass in this subject. Further details, including details of practical work assessment requirements, will be published on the departmental notice board at the start of Term 1 and in the Second Year Handbook, which will be available from the department.

This field of study may include courses offered in another faculty of the university, where these courses are related to the subject of the main study taken for the degree. ii) participate in a program of postgraduate seminars organized by the faculty. All students, full-time or part-time, must attend and participate in at least 75% of seminars in their first year of application. iii) giving a lecture or lecture recital of a maximum of 50 minutes, to the satisfaction of the assessors appointed by the faculty. Unless otherwise stated, these scholarships are awarded by the faculty based on the previous year's exam results.

Selection

The Board has prescribed that these general principles for selection shall not apply to admission to the Doctor of Philosophy programme. 2 Such dates may possibly be set in special selection principles or by announcement in the relevant handbook for the course in question. According to rule 3.3, § 1, subsection 1, special selection principles may set conditions for admission to be granted.
