TeeBeeCee Gazette FROM THE CHAIRMAN NOVEMBER 2012
You will recall that in an earlier issue of TeeBeeCee Gazette it was men-tioned that Alan Wilson had asked that we try to find a replacement for him in his role as Sponsorship Manager.
It’s fair to say that this gave the Board some real concern in that finding a new Sponsorship Manager wasn’t going to be easy – especially one who could follow in the wake of Willo’s exceptional success over such a long period of time.
It therefore gives me great delight in being able to advise that Roger Bromley has kindly agreed to take over from Alan.
Fortunately for us, Roger has had previous experience in managing sponsorships whilst at his previous bowling club.
So how lucky are we?
Roger Bromley
Willo, to his great credit, has actually set everything up for calendar year 2013 – no small task. So Roger will at least be able to glide into the job rather than being dropped in the deep end. Full marks then to Alan Wilson and to Roger Bromley. TBC continues to be blessed by the number of people who are ready and willing to give some of their time and their talents to the club and to the sport of lawn bowls.
THANK YOU TO OUR VOLUNTEERS—BOWLS GAME
All of our volunteers and their partners are invited to attend a free game of bowls on Sunday 9th Decem-ber at 10:00am followed by a finger food lunch. A nomination sheet is on the bench. This is the Board’s way of saying “thank you” to our many volunteers for the splendid work they do throughout the year.
PLEASE DON’T FORGET THE SGM BEING HELD AT TBC ON SATURDAY 10th NOVEMBER AT 4:15PM

HAMO’S TeeBeeCee REPORT
• Balance Sheet and P&L covering six months of our 2012/13 financial year is posted on the notice board. P&L shows a loss of $14,888 which is $17,069 less than for the same period last year (i.e.
loss $31,957): Note however the net proceeds of $34,667 received in May for the sale of gaming licences.
• YTD Profit before allowing for depreciation is $30,079.
• Total current assets of $279,767 (including cash assets $254,187) also shows our sound position.
• Gaming Machine Net Clearances are down by $1,735 (2%) with turnover decreasing by $251,946 over the corresponding period last year.
• Bar receipts are down by $22,603 (18%) continuing a disturbing trend (not unique to TBC).
• Position as @ 17/10/12 = Voting Membership 269, Social Membership 373, Total = 642.
• Welcome to new bowling members Brian Boettcher and Cec Thomson plus our seven new social members.
• At long last, we had a great win over Asquith in the Cliff Braybon Trophy last month. The six side series at Asquith was extremely tight with TBC finishing only 1 shot in front but at home we won 5 of the 6 games with a margin of 22 thus a 23 shot overall win. Thanks go to Asquith, firstly in that sides are now graded (according to Pennant grades min 18 each team) and to the good sporting nature (exhibited (we did not win the drinking event) despite a fair dinkum tussle.
• Semi finals of the 2012 Club Championship Fours have been decided with an impressive 24/10 win by Bob Abdallah’s team over Dugald Braithwaite, David Wilcox, Bryan Popplewell and Bill Parry with the other semi a tight, hard fought win, after an extra end, by Hamo’s team 18/16 over last year’s winners John Dade, Alby Fonti, Peter Low and Geoff Martz. The final is scheduled for Saturday 10th November between Peter Heal, Bob Southam, Bob Hawtree & Bob Abdallah and Kevin Stutchbury, John Turvey, Simon Fowler & Geoff Hamilton
• The 2012 Handicap Pairs finalists have also been decided with David Skelly & Geoff Hamilton
defeating John Huggart & Bruce Inglis 34/14 and Warwick Bridge & Bryan Popplewell defeating Ced Lewis & Tony Adams 28/21. The final is scheduled for Sunday morning 11th November.

TRADING TABLE REPORT
A COUPLE OF WISE CRACK REMARKS
TRADING TABLE REPORT
INNOVATING LAWN BOWLS
Over the past 37 years a number of my innovations involved the development of various Lawn Bowls games and training programss developed to enrich key features of our game and the way we play and participate in it.
The Super Bowl driving competition© Objective:
• An add-on sponsored competition for players participating in various sponsored bowls events.
• The concept is to encourage players to linger longer at the venue club perhaps staying for lunch or watching some matches in progress before they go home.
• This add-on Super Bowl driving competition is usually sponsored.
• The driving competition may be played during carnivals and open days.
This current innovation issue will describe how the Super Bowl driving competition may also be used for coaching purposes as the format is identical.
Basic format:
Any vacant rink or rinks on a bowling green may be used to participate in this competition. However the format may be used for personal practice sessions.
Players:
Each session or game takes 15 to 20 minutes to complete, and up to 4 players may train or compete in the driving competition, playing on an available rink or rinks depending on the total number of players competing.
Rink Set up:
Three jacks marked (O) are place either side of the (T) mark, 2m from the rear ditch on the selected rink to form the target* as indicated :-
(Front Ditch) 2m
(O)…….60 or 30cm…....(O)…….60 or 30cm…….(O (T)
The selection of 60cm or 30 cm gap has proved to be the most effective distance set between the jacks to match the skills of the players’ competing.
Trials have indicated that the 30cm space was established for competition bowlers and 60m for social bowlers.
Reducing the 30cm gap is not recommended especially when this competition is played in front of spectators, or used for assessing the data on a player’s performance.
The driving competition format:
• A player or coach stands on the bank behind the jacks, and volunteers collect the driven bowls and jacks when struck.
• Every driven bowl coming to rest is placed on the bank by volunteers.
• At the completion of each length played, volunteers return the bowls to the players’ ready to commence the next length to be played.
• Up to 4 players may compete together on a selected rink.
• Each player takes turns to deliver 4 bowls in a row from the mat**.
• The rink director or coach on the bank enters the score (see below).
Match Procedure:
• Place three jacks in a row on the (T) spot 2m from the front ditch illustrated above to form the target*
• The jacks remain in that position throughout the driving competition and are repositioned when struck out.
• One mat is carried by a competing player to place it on the relevant length spot to drive from.
• Each player takes their turn independently delivering four drives** comprising two forehands then two backhands to complete each of the three lengths to be played. (This feature was introduced to test the skill of both forehand and backhand deliveries to be evaluated later the by coaches.)
• Play starts by placing the mat on the (T) spot 2m from the rear ditch opposite the jacks placed on the (T) spot 2m from the front ditch to commence driving the maximum length.
• Following the completion of the maximum length, the mat is moved up and placed on a 30m marked spot midway between the minimum length indicated on the side banks and the 2m (T) mark on at rear ditch, to commence driving the medium length.
• Following the completion of the medium length the mat is moved up and placed on the normal minimum length mark indicated on the side banks to commence driving the minimum length, to end that match up between the players or player participating.
• The driving competition ends when each player or player completes four drives from each of the three mat lengths marked up on the rink, delivering a total of 12 drives.
• All delivered drives must cause the bowl and Jack to end up in the ditch to score.
• Players must not run up to the head following their drive.
Scoring:-
• 3 points for striking the centre Jack, (maximum score for each length is 12).
• 2 points for passing through the gap between the outer Jack and the centre Jack of the nominated hand delivered.***
• 1 point for striking the outer Jack of the nominated hand delivered.***
• *** Players must deliver 2 forehands and 2 backhands to complete each length.
• Maximum score for all lengths, max, med, and min, completed is 36.
Note: Social players or beginners need not nominate the hand to be played.
The above format is subject to copyright associated with Super Bowl Reg. No J8720440 and may be played socially by club members at their club, but not be amended, conducted or used for any commercial purposes without first seeking my specific approval.

Email from Terry Gillett
I Haven’t checked it out myself -but
Please read below and pass on to your family & friends.
Got a call last night from an individual identifying himself as a Telstra Service technician who was
conducting a test on our Telephone lines. He stated that to complete the test I should touch nine (9),zero ( 0), hash (#) and then hang up. Luckily, I was suspicious and refused.
Upon contacting the telephone company, I was informed that by pushing 90#, you give the requesting individual full access to your telephone line, which allows them to place long distance telephone calls billed to your home phone number. I was further informed that this scam has been originating from many of the local gaols/prisons.
DO NOT press 90# for ANYONE. PLEASE pass this on to your friends.
If you have mailing lists and/or newsletters from organizations you are connected with, I encourage you to pass this on.

It has been confirmed by Telstra and Australian Police.
COOKING SECTION
HI VEG MUFFINS by Dorothy McDermott via Glennis Wood and Molly Rayner Ingredients:
600 grams vegetables. I put almost anything in that I have; kumara, capsicum, onion. I use a bit of garlic, celery, bok-choy, broccoli. Basically anything you have in the fridge.
100 grams corn kernels – fresh or canned – if canned, then drain first.
1/3 cup vegetable oil
250 grams reduced fat cheddar cheese; I use whatever I have in the fridge.
Salt and Pepper
2 cups Self Raising Flour, sifted (I usually use wholemeal.) 4 eggs
Method:
Heat oven 180°
Grease muffin Tins – approx 18
Grate what you have, kumera, cheese, garlic etc. Chop the rest finely. Add corn in mixing bowls with oil, grated cheese and season.
Fold in flour. I like a bit of that hot paprika powder folded into flour.
Whisk eggs till frothy, then fold into veg mix. Spoon into greased muffin tins (not paper ones) Bake 20 to 25 minutes.
Let muffins cool completely before removing from tin.
I usually have a warm one.
Enjoy – Dorothy – Glennis and Molly
(Note from Editor Eva – Geoff and I baked this batch up according to the recipe above. I did indeed use anything I had in the fridge ++. It is delicious! Thanks Dorothy for the recipe, and thanks Glennis and Molly for giving it to Dorothy. Mmmmm Yum Yum.)

JOKE TIME
True Irish Joke
One day an Irishman goes into a pharmacy shop, reaches into his pocket and takes out a small bottle and a teaspoon. He pours some liquid onto the teaspoon and offers it to the chemist.
“Could you taste this for me, please?”
The chemist takes the teaspoon, puts it in his mouth, swills the liquid around and swallows it.
“Does that taste sweet to you?” says Paddy.
“No, not at all,” says the chemist.
“Oh that’s a relief,” says Paddy. “The doctor told me to come here and get my urine tested for sugar.”
I have been in many places, but I’ve never been in Cahoots. Apparently, you can’t go alone. You have to be in Cahoots with someone.
I’ve also never been in Cognito. I hear no one recognizes you there.
I have, however, been in Sane. They don’t have an airport; you have to be driven there. I have made several trips there, thanks to my friends, family and work.
I would like to go to Conclusions, but you have to jump, and I’m not too much on physical activity anymore.
I have also been in Doubt. That is a sad place to go, and I try not to visit there too often.
I’ve been in Flexible, but only when it was very important to stand firm.
Sometimes I’m in Capable, and I go there more often as I’m getting older.
One of my favourite places to be is in Suspense! It really gets the adrenalin flowing and pumps up the old heart! At my age I need all the stimuli I can get!
I may have been in Continent, and I don’t remember what country I was in. It’s an age thing.
PLEASE DO YOUR PART!
Today is one of the many National Health Days throughout the year.

My job is done!
Life is too short for negative drama & petty things. So laugh insanely, love truly and forgive quickly!
From one unstable person to another... I hope everyone is happy in your head - we’re all doing pretty good in mine!
Remembering your age ... I have sent this in large print.
