While the whole Great Barrier Reef needs careful management to protect the natural environment and balance the wants of different interests, special care is necessary in heavily used areas.

The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority has developed the Cairns Area Plan of Management to protect the values of the Area while maintaining a range of use opportunities.

The Cairns Section Zoning Plan still applies to the whole of the Cairns Section of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, including the Area covered by this Plan of Management (refer to map on page 2). The provisions outlined in this booklet apply to all users of the Area. The reader should refer to the Plan of Management for more detailed information.

No anchoring on coral in National Park Zones (dark green), Buffer Zones (light green) or Conservation Park Zones (yellow). Refer to the Cairns Section Zoning Map for details of these zones.

Access to reefs will be subject to group and vessel size limits (refer to 'Requirements
