An Act to amend the Bush Fires Act,

E it Enacted by the Governor of the State of South Australia, with the advice and consent of the Parliament thereof, as follows:1. (1) This Act may be cited as the" Bush Fires Act Amendment Short titles.

(2) The Bush Fires Act, 1913 (hereinafter referred to as "the No. 1123 of 1913.
principal Act "), and this Act may be cited together as the "Bush Fires Acts, 1913 and 1926".
2. Section 6 of the prjncipal Act is amended- Amendment of principal Act, 8. 6-
(a) 'by striking out the word" three" in the penultimate line of Burning of stubble.
paragraph II. of subsection (2) thereof and by inserting in lieu there,of the word "six" ;
(b) by striking out the word" five" in the last line of the said paragraph II. and by inserting in lieu thereof the word
« twelve" ;
(0) by striking out the word" twenty-four" in the first line of paragraph III. of the said subsection and by inserting in lieu thereof the word "twelve" ;
(d) by inserting after the word "occupier" in the third line of the said paragraph III. the words " or person in charge" ; and

(e) by adding at the end of the said paragraph III. the following passage:-
"Any land or building shall be deemed to be immediately adjoining a field or place as aforesaid notwithstanding that they are separated by a road:
Provided that the land or building shall not be deemed to be immediately adjoining as aforesaid in any case where the road is formed and metalled to a width of more than ten feet".
3. Section 7 of the principal Act is amended-
(a) by striking out the word" three" in the penultimate line of paragraph I. thereof and by inserting in lieu thereof the word" six" ;
(b) by striking out the word" five" in the last line of the said paragraph 1. and by inserting in lieu thereof the word
"twelve" ;
(c) by striking out the word" twenty-four" in the first line of paragraph II. thereof and by inserting in liEm thereof the word "twelve" ;
(d) by inserting after the word" occupier" in the third line of . thesa~d paragraph II. the words " or person in charge" ;
and
(e) by adding at the end.of the said paragraph II. the following passage:- .

Amendment of . 4. Section 9 of the principal Act is amended-

Burning of scrub. (a) by striking out the word" twenty-four" in the first line of paragraph II. thereof and by inserting in lieu thereof the word" twelve ";
(b) by inserting after the word" occupier" in the third line of the said paragraph II. the words" or person in charge";

(0) by adding at the end of the said paragraph II. the following passage:-

6. Section 13 of the principal Act is amended- Amendment of principal Act, II. 13-
(a) by inserting after the word "District" in the third thereof the words " or any portion thereof" ; and
line Alteration of periods and hours for burning.
(b) by inserting after the word" District" in the second line of subsection (3) thereof the words " or portion thereof".
"/. Section 15 of the principal Act is amended by striking out the Amendment of
word "seven" in the sixth line thereof and by inserting in lieu principal Act, s. 15-
thereof the word "ten ". Lighting of fires.
8. Section 16 of the principal Act is amended by inserting after Amendment of
the word" agent" in the fourth line of subseCtion • (2) thereof the PErinci~alt~ct, xamma Ion 8.£ 16- words" or any member of the Pohce Force". firearnIs. 0
9. Xhe last line of section 17 of the principal Act is amended as to read as follows : -

Penalty-Not less than Two Pounds nor more than Twenty Pounds.
10. Section 18 of the principal Act is amended by. striking out the words " One Pound" in the last line thereof and by inserting in lieu thereof the words "Two Pounds".
