Along the Goldfields Highway there are large parts of the road reserve which are currently unfenced. The lack of fencing allows stray stock to graze on roadsides and cross the road, which is a major road safety risk. The proposed fencing project is located between SLK 737 and 748 on the Goldfields Highway (Killara Station), in the Shire of Meekatharra.

A flora survey was carried out along the proposed enclosure area and did not identify any species of concern (i.e. threatened flora). Both reports said the fencing works would avoid the indigenous heritage sites discovered in the surveys.

Bioregion (IBRA Region) Murchison (MUR) 100%. g) Native vegetation should not be cleared if the clearing of the vegetation is likely to cause significant land degradation. Native vegetation should not be cleared if the clearing of the vegetation is likely to have an impact on the environmental values of any adjacent or nearby conservation area. ASSESSMENT The project area is not adjacent to or in the vicinity of a conservation reserve or protected area.

ASSESSMENT The project areas will not affect surface or underground water sources.

ASSESSMENT OF ASPECTS AND IMPACTS

A search of the DoW database confirmed that the proposed works will not disrupt or interrupt natural drainage and runoff patterns. No large sensitive receivers in addition to the proposed works, but excessive dust can affect vegetation. Construction work is not expected to contribute significantly to noise levels at the nearest sensitive receivers, provided that the work is limited to normal working hours.

Shire of Meekatharra requirements must be met in relation to noise management and construction working hours. Visual amenities The proposed works will result in minor and short-term visual impacts during construction. Provided that traffic management and signage to main road standards are used, none of the proposed works pose any significant risk to public safety.

The proposed works will serve to increase public safety by improving local road and pedestrian conditions. Not relevant to the proposed works, the project does not require the use of hazardous substances. Contamination The works are within the road reserve and no known previous land use activities in or near the project area have had the potential to create contamination, e.g.

As the proposed works are entirely within the existing road reserve, no planning scheme amendments are required. National Heritage Places A search of the Australian Heritage Places Inventory Database did not find any site(s) in the vicinity of the project. A search of the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities Finder for Protected Matters found no Ramsar wetland(s) in the vicinity of the project.

A search of the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities Search Tool found no threatened ecological communities, no threatened species and no listed marine species in the vicinity of the project. A search by the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities Protected Matters Search Tool found no migratory species near the project. Commonwealth Territories The project is not located on and will not affect any Commonwealth Territories.

The project management measures identified in this PCI complement the standard environmental management contract specifications used for Category 2 projects.

The standard specifications of the major roads environmental contract (Specifications and 304) should be followed where appropriate. Due to the scale and nature of the project, no contingencies are identified as the inherent environmental risks are small. Due to the scale and nature of the project, there is no requirement to audit the implementation of the EMP as the environmental risks are minor.

Vegetation clearance Ensure that the overall objectives of the alignment and construction works are compatible with the maintenance and, where possible, the enhancement of the biological integrity of the surrounding environment and the reduction of vegetation loss and. Project Manager Main Roads Construction work will be undertaken in the summer to develop the potential for. Control/spray weed species within the project area prior to construction to limit the amount of propagating material that can be spread during disturbance.

This vegetation will be used during any rehabilitation work and will either be mulched or re-scattered as per the TDP/Revegetation plan. Surface Drainage Maintain the hydrological regime that exists prior to the construction of the proposal. Access to private property and appropriate traffic management measures must be planned and implemented prior to the construction of the works.

Contractor Main Roads Any complaints regarding dust will be dealt with as soon as possible. Watering, the use of hydromulch or other forms of mulch to protect loose surfaces should be used as mitigation measures.
