HAVE YOU A LAMBING PROBLEM?

Here are the steps you should take if you have or suspect a breeding problem in your flocks

1. Seek competent help. (This does not mean your neighbour!)

2. Know your e n e m y — o b t a i n diagnosis of your problem.

3. Take " s a l v a g e " measures—to reduce immediate losses.

4 . Take preventive measures—to prevent or reduce losses in subsequent years:

• make sure your ram management is satisfactory

• c u l l ewes w i t h defective udders

• mate sheep on an age basis

• lamb at the right t i m e f o r your property

• provide adequate n u t r i t i o n d u r i n g last six t o eight weeks o f pregnancy

• lamb in short wool

• lamb in paddocks w i t h adequate shelter belts

• keep lambing ewes under observation

• where necessary, control predators

• consult competent assistance whenever in doubt

5. Pay more attention t o your sheep and do not adopt the attitude of letting your ewes " t a k e their c h a n c e " .

N O W is the t i m e to concentrate on the preventive measures that will reduce your losses in the f u t u r e .
