DEVELOPMENT AT BEDFORD PARK

Harrison, the staff architect, had developed the basic concepts of the site development plan. It is expected that the members of the Academic Committee will be appointed in early 1966. For the crucial planning stages, Bedford Park has been part of the University of Adelaide and has enjoyed many benefits as a result of this relationship.

These investigations will relate to some of the unique problems of the Southern Ocean.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND AW ARDS

A folder regarding the fee concession scheme and application forms can be requested from the register's head office. The scheme will be administered by the Schofarships Officer, Eliza.beth House, North Terrace, Adelaide, from whom furtlrnr inquiries may be made. A Junior Research Fellowship may be awarded to a candidate with a good ordinary degree to enable him to proceed to an honors degTee.

A research grant may be awarded to a candidate with a good honors degree, or equivalent, to enable him to proceed to a master's or a Ph.D.

THE UNION

A further twenty hectares, currently in reserve, will be developed as the need arises, and provision has been made for tennis. In the meantime, students will be able to use tennis and basketball courts close to the university. In 1966, this area will be used as an emergency station and rest area and members of the Union staff, trained in first aid, will be on hand to assist in emergency situations.

The following two existing bus services are expected to be expanded during peak hours to take passengers to the University buildings: a) the S011th Road service from the city to Da.rlington, which caters to students traveling and studying from the city. adjacent to South Road-ad;.

STATUTES, REGULATIONS, SCHEDULES, SYLLABUSES AND TIMETABLES

STATUTES

The committee appoints the president and vice-president of each school on the recommendation of the 8'c'hoo1 committee; except that the first head of each school is appointed by the council. Except with the approval of the Council on the re-proposal of the 8'current· Oomrnittee, the President shall not be entitled to •re-appointment for more than one further consecutive hour. The president of each school, or in his absence the vice-president, shall perform such duties as may be prescribed by the council from time to time, and shall (among other things): a) be a member of the board of directors and the standing committee of the board of directors, and shall preside at all meetings of these bodies at which he is present;.

If President Twan and Vice President are unavailable or unable to act, the Vice-Chancellor or Principal shall not call a meeting of the Borurd or Standing Committee or, in an emergency, arrange for some other member of the Board to act as President.

REGULATIONS

Each group shall combine two of the disciplines offered by a school or other combinations of two disciplines as may be approved by the respective School Board. Except by permission of the Graduate School Board, a part-time candidate will complete part-time work over two or three years. Students who do not attend in full in any year will be required to pay such appropriate proportion of the fee therefor.

If in the opinion of the relevant Board a candidate for the degree is not making satisfactory progress, the Board may with the consent of the Council withdraw its approval of his candidature and the candidate shall cease to register for the degree. The supervisor must submit to the relevant Board at least once a year a report on the candidate's progress in his program of study.

Timetables specifying the subjects to be taken and the examinations to be taken, as well as the method of presentation and examination of the thesis, shall be drawn up by the committee and submitted to the council for approval and published in the next university calendar. which is issued after the approval has been issued. If, in the committee's opinion, the candidate for the diploma is not progressing satisfactorily, the committee may, with the consent of the council, withdraw its consent to his candidacy and the candidate will cease to be enrolled in the diploma. Schedules specifying the courses to be taken and the examinations to be taken, and the manner of presentation and examination of the dissertation, shall be drawn up by the Joint Committee and submitted to the Council for approval, and shall be published in the next University Calendar issued after approval is given .

If, in the opinion of the Joint Board, a candidate for the degree is not making satisfactory progress, the Board may, with the consent of the Council, withdraw its approval of his candidacy and the candidate shall cease to register for the degree. The candidate will follow a program of study as determined by the Joint Board on the recommendation of the supervisor. Material submitted for any other de@ree will not be submitted for examination for the degree of Doctor or Philosopher without the approval of the Academic Committee for the reunion of the relevant Board.

The course syllabus for the diploma is prepared by the board of Social Sciences Schools. Natural science. The three courses must be drawn from either two or three of the approved disciplines.

SYLLABUSES

The special topic, at the professor's discretion, may take the form of a thesis in the final year. The Sper.ial topic at the discretion of the professor takes the form of a thesis in the final year. The organizational framework of social welfare practice; analysis of structure and function in the social agency. i) The executive role of the social agency in the implementation of social policy; areas of functional responsibility. ii) The process of change in community welfare organization; the contribution of agency research to evolving social policy; recording data as a basis for informed action. iii) Rationalization of agency services - characteristics and composition of groups served, sources and timing of referrals, deployment of resources; iv) Administrative procedures to implement Rgency purposes.

Part II and Part ID Courses in Physics

Part II and Part III Courses in Chemistry

Emphasis vi11 on similarities in life processes of plants and animals at different levels of biological organization (molecular, cellular, whole organism, population). The course comprises three lectures per week, and is identical to Biology I (GOO) except that it does not include practical work.
