HUGE NIGHT FOR FLIPPERS!
On February 25th, under the guise of the Annual General Meeting for Gippsland Flippers, there were secrets afoot and in play later in the evening.
After the meeting, to ‘celebrate the 10th anniversary of the reformation of the club’, a supper was held at the Yallourn Bowling Club, where the club had organised to surprise Secretary, Sue Graham, with a club Life Membership.
And surprise her they did.
As she wandered into the supper room, she was confronted by family, friends, ex-members and club members. Surprised and speechless, Sue was presented with her Life Membership certificate and flowers by President, Don Coupe; something she had organised some years earlier for Don. He then read out a history of Sue’s involvement with Flippers, which
extends over many years. Wishes were sent from friends who weren’t able to join her for the special evening, and congratulations came from the whole of the neighbouring Sale SADAST’s.
Some months ago, members Val Massey and Peter Wilson were successful with applications for funding from TruEnergy and Australian Paper to purchase new club uniforms, and these fantastic shirts were released to the members on this night also.
You will definitely know where the Flippers are at swim meets now!
To top the evening off, member Phil Blunt was presented with his certificates for the two National records he set at Long Distance Short Course last year.
All-in-all, it was a very exciting night for the club, especially Sue Graham, for whom the award is very well deserved. This night was the epitome of Masters – good friends, good food, great times = great club.
