Solar Compactor bin Trial
Keep nsW beautIful
envIroMentors
in term 1, 13 schools from across The Hills participated in the Keep nSW Beautiful Environmentors- an incursion based primary school program.
The visits provided students with the opportunity to learn about sustainable waste management practices that are of benefit to the environment.
Schools had the opportunity to participate in one of four modules including: recycling; composting;
worm farming; and litter.
Recently, council trialled solar compactor bins in main Street castle Hill for one month. the bins were installed to help improve efficiency of waste collection in our public areas. the ‘smart bins’ compacted the waste, holding up to eight times more waste than a regular litter bin, and sent out alerts when they required emptying.
in addition, the technology helped to reduce the instances of overflowing waste, utilised renewable solar cell energy, improved the local amenity and encouraged correct disposal behaviours.

council recently supported the annual clean up australia Day events which included Business Clean Up Day on 26 february 2019, Schools clean up Day on 1 march 2019 and clean up australia Day on 3 march 2019. The events encouraged the community to come together and clean up their local environment. The response from The Hills was huge as volunteers banded together to pick up litter. over 40 sites were registered across the three days helping to keep The Hills litter free.
Did you know leaving a shopping trolley unattended in a public place is an offence and fines may apply?
Dumping shopping trolleys can obstruct roads or footpaths, become a trip hazard or end up in our waterways. if you have used a shopping trolley, please ensure you return it back to the shopping centre.
