Medal of Distinction requirements

Purpose
A “Medal of Distinction” award is for long and outstanding service to the sport of judo. This must have benefited either NSW or Australian judo above the normal, and is to be seen as a reward for such commitment to the sport. A Medal of Distinction can be awarded for individuals who may not have reached the strict criteria set for Life Membership.
Requirements
1. Current member of JFA (NSW) Inc and a long history of membership.
(Note: This may include membership of affiliated associations or overseas membership in other countries, or membership in other states within Australia).
2. Long standing service to the sport of judo in addition to those of a competitor.
This may include service as a coach, administrator, or referee.
3. Member must be a person of good character.
4. For service outside the Sydney metropolitan area - must be recognized within the individual’s area (or town) as contributing to the development of judo in that area.
5. For service within the Sydney metropolitan area – must have provided
outstanding service to judo outside their own club (for example: on the BOM;
at tournaments; as a referee; State or national coach).
Process
1. Board of Management (BOM) will accept nominations from anyone (other than the person themselves) within the current JFA (NSW) Inc membership, which have been seconded by another current member of the JFA (NSW) Inc.
2. Nominations are to be made in writing to the BOM, and must be received at least one months before the AGM, and must include a full resume of judo activities and service.
3. BOM are to select appropriate applications, and choose only those applicants they deem suitable.
4. This list of candidates approved by the BOM to be submitted to the next JFA (NSW) Inc Annual General Meeting (AGM) for election.
5. Nominations must be approved by at least a two thirds (2/3) majority of the voting members at the AGM.
6. Medal of Distinction recipients to be notified of their election via letter within one month of the AGM.
7. Presentation of life award to occur at first available tournament following written notification.

1. Free entry to all JFA (NSW) Inc run tournaments and events.
2. Name to be entered on the register kept of Medal of Distinction recipients and these names to be published on the JFA (NSW) Inc website.
