Junior English Grammar and Composition

Hy S. W. KDMONDS, M.A., B . S c , mid A. M. WALMSI.BT, M.A., H.Sc.

Published by THE UNIVERSITY TUTORIAL PRESS.

Prletf, 2/6.

This book covers fully the work prescribed for the Junior Public Examination, 1915, it is simple, clear, and free of t h a t redundancy of detail which has ruined other text- books on the same subject.

It is based throughout on the recommendations of the Committee of Grammatical Terminology which recently met a t Cambridge.

The arrangement of the book is entirely original. The first eleven lessons deal with the classification of the parts of speech : their relation one to the other, and their use in phrases, clauses, and sentences. This section includes elementary analysis and parsing.

The second part of the book deals with the inflections of words and with substitutes.for inflections. In these lessons the rules of syntax have been introduced a t an early stage, and it has not been found difficult to arrange them so t h a t they can be t a u g h t side hy side with accidence, while the way is prepared for the analysis and parsing of the complete sentence.

The third section of the book deals more fully with analysis and parsing and is supplementary to the previous sections. It contains lessons on the origin and the growth of the language, idioms, figures of speech, punctuation, etc., and is thus introductory to a study of English Composition.

Teachers seeking the newest and most thorough text- book of Grammar and Composition for their.classes next year, will find that this book in every way meets their requirements.

A Specimen- Copy of above work may be sent to any teacher on application to
