It’s The Month of Love

It’s the Month of February and yes bowlers … that is the month of love … Valentine’s Day is on the 14th for those who don’t know.

So get out there and share the love on those greens

The Board News Board Members Sought

The Board would like to advise that we are yet to fill the positions of Operations Director and Facilities Director.

If you think you would like to apply for these positions please contact the Board and let them know that you are interested.

Men’s A Grade Finals

Robbie Taverner Winner “A”

Singles 2019

Steve Kaefer and Robbie Taverner – Finalists “A” Singles

2019

Congratulations to all of those Members who competed in the A Singles for 2019.

We had a field of 51 members who competed and the games were played in the spirit of the contest.

Congratulations to both Steve Kaefer and Robbie Taverner for a hard fought Final, with the eventual winner being Robbie Taverner 25-9.

Taigum Village Challenge

Pool A started strongly against Aspley Red winning 3 out of 4 rinks to collect 5 points. In round 2 they came up against a strong Chermside Blue side and did not receive any points. After 2 rounds they are currently second with 5 points behind Chermside Blue on 12 points.

Pool B encountered a strong Ashgrove side and with a big win in the fours was able to collect 2 points. In round 2 they fared much better against Aspley White winning on all four rinks to collect maximum points. They are currently on top of the Pool with 8 points just ahead of Narangba on 6 points.

Pool C encountered a very strong Aspley Gold side and had a strong win in the fours. In round 2 against Chermside Gold they had two very close losses and were unable to collect any points.

They are still in touch with the Pool leader Aspley Gold on 7.5 points.

Pool D against Hamilton managed to win on 2 rinks and collect 3.5 points for the round. In round 2 against Aspley Blue they were able to win 1 pairs game and

after 2 rounds with 4.5 points are not far from the Pool leader Hamilton on 7.5 points.

The following is the Draw:

Men’s Championship Pairs

The Men’s Club Championship Pairs commence on Sunday 3rd February 2019.

Premier 7’s

Division 1 has started strongly with wins over Tewantin Noosa and Ferny Grove. They are sitting nicely on top of their section with 4 points closely followed by Scarborough and New Farm on 3 points

Division 3 has two rink wins 1 against Caboolture Lakes and 1 against Geebung. Although they have no points at this time they are still in touch with the sectional leader Kawana on 5 points.

Division 5 went down on all 3 rinks against Hamilton in Round 1. In Round 2 they managed a win in the fours against Pine Rivers A. After two rounds although without points they are still in touch with the leaders Hamilton and Pine Rivers A who are on 5 points

Division 6 started strongly winning on all 3 rinks against Banyo. In the second round were only able to get a win with the pairs. After 2 rounds they are second with 3 points just behind Pine Rivers B on 5 points.

Good luck to all of those competing in this event.

Five-A-Side

Five-A-Side Competition at Kallangur is on again on 5th February 2019. The Competition will commence at 6.30pm or earlier if everyone is in attendance.

The competition will run for five weeks or seven weeks depending on numbers. We will require a minimum of 30 entries and a maximum of 40 entries.

If we get 30 then it will be a 5 week competition and if 40 we will run a 7 week competition.

Additional players that register after the cut-off will be kept in reserve. So it is first in best dressed.

It is a random graded draw for teams on the first night and teams will consist of 5 players.

Play will be 2 games each evening of 1 x singles and 1 x

fours and then 1 x pairs and 1 x triples.

The nomination sheet is on the noticeboard.

Brekky Pairs

This event is currently open to all interested parties … you do not even have to be a registered bowler. It is more of a come and try day.

So, if you know of anyone who is interested in getting involved in bowls, this is a great morning to just come on down and have a go and enjoy a great Brekky, come along on Sunday 20th January and get involved.

Saturday, January 26th 2019 saw the annual Australia Day Open Fours Competition at Kallangur Memorial Bowls Club.

The weather was perfect, but hot, the Bowls were great and the overall entertainment for the day was fantastic.

Our DJ John Orr played some great music all day. The lunch was well done by all of the kitchen staff and the day was well organised by Men’s President Col Devlin.

There were Australia Day prizes galore and everyone really enjoyed the day.

Club Challenge Board

The 2019 Club Challenge Board has been tabled at the Men’s Committee Meeting and approved.

It is yet to be approved by the Board, so we are awaiting a decision on the Rules and Cost from the Board.

Ladies News “B” Singles Open

“B Singles nominations close Thursday 31st January 2019 and are scheduled to commence on Thursday 21st February 2019.

GR8’s

GR8’s commence on Saturday 16th February.

Ladies Social Bowls Day

On Thursday 7th February the Ladies Social Bowls will be a Club Selected 2 Bowls Rotating Triples Day as a change to our regular events. All are welcome to play.

The Ladies Social Day is held on Thursdays and is usually an Open event.

The Ladies start out with a lovely morning tea and then it is off to the competitive bowls, so come along and have a great morning.

Championship Fours

Championship Fours finals will be held on Thursday 31st January with Hazel Kruger, M Jordan, C Bateman and J Sauer playing S Armstrong, M Rosier, C Prole and I Dickson.

Good luck to both teams.

Financial Day

The First Ladies Financial Day for 2019 will be held on Monday 18th February 2019 and will be 21 Ends or the Bell. Prizes will be out of the hat and our Sponsor for the day will be June Holmes.

All welcome to play, Ladies to Skip on the Day.

Arm Bowlers News Kallangur Tournament

The Tournament was held on Sunday 13th January 2019, with a full field of 28 teams competing.

Kallangur had 9 players and they performed well, against a strong field.

Shirley Hennessy and Merv Hubbard were runners up for the Group A and Graham McNiven and Tony Watson were Runners up in Group B.

Winners of Group A were Ken Muir and Geoff Cooper of Kawana and winners of the Group B were David Johnson of Musgrave Hill and Alan Arnold of Bargara.

Our Major Sponsor for this event was Linda Walters of Progressive Realty, pictured above presenting prize money.

We also had two Minor Sponsors for this event in Kris Higgins of Travel Counsellors, presenting raffle prize above and Division 7 Councillor - Cr Denise Sims, who have put up prizes for our MABA raffle.

I would like to thank all of these Sponsors for their generosity.

The next MABA Tournament to be held is Tweed Heads on February 25, 2019.

BNABB Working Committee

Brisbane Northside Arm Bowlers Branch (BNABB) was only able to form a Working Party on

Sunday January 13th due to not enough Members being present.

We needed 20 and only had 14.

However, we did form our Working Party.

We are scheduled to reconvene on Tuesday 5th February at 6pm to hopefully officially form the Committee.

Cr Denise Sims kindly donated an afternoon Tea and Brett Hayes from Peter Dutton’s Office was in attendance and brought with him a lovely Hamper from Peter Dutton’s Office, which he presented to Tony Watson and Cheryl Hutchinson (President MABA), which we will raffle at a future date.

Possible Amalgamation

Tony is currently in discussion with organisers from Sunshine Coast and Brisbane Southside pertaining to the potential amalgamation of our areas, due to the lack of numbers in order to form our own Committee

Club News

Engagement Party

The Kallangur Memorial Bowls Club hosted an Engagement Party on Saturday 19th January 2019.

The Function Room is roomy, has a dance floor and the Club Catering is excellent.

Friday Nights at the Club

Every Friday evening the Kitchen is open at the Kallangur Memorial Bowls Club with a wide range of reasonably priced meals on offer.

Darts Club News

The new season of darts at KMBC starts Feb 05 at 7pm arrival for General Meeting. The start time for Darts is 7:30pm.

Depending on numbers we will review the numbers of teams for 2019.
