SEASON 2012/2013

Welcome to all new and returning athletes and families for Season 2012/2013.

With most Centres now having commenced weekly competition, we hope you have enjoyed the first few weeks and are keen and eager to tell all your friends at school about Little Athletics.

With many activities on offer throughout the season, please ensure you keep up to date with events both at your Centre and around the State by visiting your Centre website and the State Association website (www.lavic.com.au) on a regular basis. In addition your family will have been provided with a handbook with specific information

regarding your Centre. This will give you details about weekly competition, records and also direct contact details of your committee. Please feel free to contact one of them should you have any enquiries.

To ensure your child/ren enjoy their time at Little Athletics, make sure you help out at your Centre when asked and maybe you could even attend one of the courses on offer from the Association.

JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT SQUAD (JDS)

The Junior Development Squad for this season has now commenced with the 1st training day being held at Knox on Sunday 7 October. This squad provides athletes with an opportunity to be coached by some of the top coaches from around the State by attending a number of activities and training sessions throughout the season. Athletes in the U11 – U16 age groups need to have reached certain qualifying

standards for their events and then submit an application form to be considered. Please ensure that qualifying standards have been obtained this season for the age your child is in. Last season’s performances no longer apply.

With a large number of athletes already involved, check to see if you have reached the qualifying standards by visiting www.lavic.com.au.

Two of our JDS athletes – Davis & Jax Green of Brighton were lucky enough to meet

Usain Bolt on his recent visit to Melbourne. Davis got his JDS T Shirt signed and is planning on framing his T Shirt.

2012 IGA REGION RELAYS

The 2012 IGA Region Relays are being held at the following venues:

Eastern Metro – Sunday 18th November @ Knox

Gippsland Country – Sunday 18th November @ Casey Fields

Northern Metro – Sunday 18th November @ Keilor

Northern Country – Sunday 18th November @ Shepparton

Southern Metro – Saturday 17th November @ Springvale

Western Country – Sunday 18th November @ Ballarat

Western Metro – Saturday 17th November @ Werribee

If you wish to participate in a team please contact your Centre Secretary for further information. Entries close on Midnight, Thursday 1st November 2012.

The 2012/13 State Relay Championships will be held at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park on Saturday 1st December 2012.

2012 IGA STATE MULTI-EVENT CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2012 State Multi Event Championships are being held at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park on the weekend of Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th December 2012.

The following age groups will be held on the following days:

Saturday 15th December – Under 9 – Under 11 Boys & Girls Sunday 16th December – Under 12 – Under 14 Boys & Girls

Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th December – Under 15 – Under 16 Boys & Girls

To assist families who may need to travel from outside metropolitan Melbourne to attend this event, Little Athletics Victoria in conjunction with the Sebel & Citigate Hotels Albert Park (walking distance from Lakeside Stadium) have secured some fantastic rates at both hotels over this weekend. 2013 IGA REGION TRACK & FIELD

The 2013 IGA Region Track & Field are being held at the following venues:

The 2013 State Track & Field Championships will be held in Bendigo on Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th March 2013.

AUSTRALIAN LITTLE ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS – CANBERRA 2013

The Australian Little Athletics Championships (ALAC) will be held in Canberra on Sunday 28 April 2013. This event is for

22 U13 athletes and 4 U15 athletes who will be selected from our State Track & Field and State Multi Event

Championships respectively. Athletes will be selected from performances throughout the season and do not need to apply. Below is some additional information about these Championships.

 Once selected into the State Squad, you are not guaranteed a place in the final State Team.

 Athletes will depart Melbourne on Friday 26 April 2013 and return to Melbourne on Monday 29 April 2013.

 Athletes upon selection in the final team, will not have any contact with parents whilst away in Canberra.

 The following training sessions will be held and athletes will need to be available for them all:

o Monday 1 April (Easter Monday) – morning. (Squad athletes) o Saturday 6 April – Sunday 7 April – camp (Squad athletes) o Sunday 14 April – afternoon (Team athletes)

o Sunday 21 April – morning/afternoon (Team athletes)

 Athletes will need to train with respective ALAC Coaches and are not permitted to bring personal coaches to the above training sessions.

LAVic COMPETITION RULES

The new LAVic Competition Rules are now in operation. This means that the IAAF Rules are the basis of the

Competition Rules with a separate document produced to outline LAVic specific rules as well as altered IAAF Rules which were not indicative or correct for athletes in Little Athletics.

Regulation 8) or can be viewed by clicking here

Please ensure you read the ‘Changes from 2011 Rules’ section at the front of the LAVic Competition Rules to become familiar with the changes for the new season.

UNIFORMS

Please make sure that you are wearing your Chest Patch and red oval patch on the front of your uniform worn each week at your Centre. This will assist your Centre to identify athletes and ensure results for each child are entered correctly along with IGA branding who are now our major partner.

All uniforms at Region and State Championships must now have the IGA red patch sewn on the front of the uniform in order to pass through the call room. So please contact your Centre Secretary for the desired location

of this IGA patch if you are unsure.

The Centre Uniform Booklet is now on the LAVic website alongside the LAVic Competition Rules.

Please make sure you are totally aware of your approved Centre uniform for Region and State Championships.

LAVic OFFICE CLOSURE

The Association Office will be closed on Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th November for the Melbourne Cup weekend.

VICTORIA’S FASTEST KID

PINKLETICS

RACE TO THE FINISH LINE – PINKLETICS PLACES FILLING FAST!

Little Athletics Centres right across Australia have sprinted towards the opportunity to turn pink in support of the McGrath Foundation by registering for Pinkletics 2012. With registration limited to 200 centres, all Centres interested in participating are encouraged to register quickly as places are filling fast. Centres that register will receive a McGrath Foundation Pinkletics Team Kit to paint the field pink including hot pink shoelaces, temporary tattoos, pink face paint, collection tins, hot pink balloons and participation ribbons valued at more than $500!
