ALBANY ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE

INTRODUCTION

The Environmental Committee will provide an opportunity for all Auckland staff and a local lay person to comment on all matters associated with the environs and grounds of the Albany Campus. This will include monitoring alterations to accommodate new buildings, changes to landscaping as well as all matters concerning the improvement of the environmental standards and performance of the University. The Committee will also act as a liaison between the local community and the University on matters concerning the environmental wellbeing of the Albany basin.

OBJECTIVE

To assist and advise in the co-ordination and regulation of the Albany Campus with regard to environmental issues and play a constructive part in the development and promotion of environmental awareness and best management practices in the wider community.

TERMS OF REFERENCE

1) To monitor the environment of the Albany Campus according to the Environmental Policy of Massey University.

2) To assist the Regional Facilities Manager to draw up protocols for the Albany Campus which will ensure that the regional environment codes and laws are complied with.

3) To assist in information dissemination and education at the Albany Campus on environmental issues of staff, students and the community at large.

4) To provide a forum and channel of communication at the Albany Campus for discussions and consultations on environmental issues for staff, students and the community at large.

5) To monitor and provide recommendations on the future development of the Albany Campus including sustainable development, alterations to accommodate new buildings, changes to landscaping, and related matters concerning the environmental standards and performance of the University.

6) To provide support and recommendation to the Regional Chief Executive – Albany (or nominee) on on-going environmental issues and environment management.

CONSTITUTION

(i) Membership

Chairperson (appointed by Regional Chief Executive – Albany) Regional Registrar – Albany, or nominee

Regional Facilities Registrar – Albany or nominee

One Maori Staff member (appointed by RCE-Auckland)

One student member (appointed by the Albany Student Association) One Auckland Community Board representative

One member for each College represented on the Albany Campus Member(s)-at-large (appointed by the Chairperson)

(ii) Accountability

The Committee will meet at least quarterly.

The minutes of the Committee will be provided to Albany Campus Regional Chief Executive, Head of the Institute of Natural Resources, and to the Director, Strategic Facilities Management, Manawatu.

The Committee shall provide written reports and or recommendations regularly (no fewer than once a year) and as warranted by the Committee to the Regional Chief Executive – Albany on environmental issues. Confirmation of receipt and consideration of said reports and recommendations will be provided in a timely fashion through written response from the RCE - Albany.

(iii) Term of Service To be reviewed annually.

(iv) Secretarial Support

Provided by the office of the Committee Chairperson.
