At the end of the course, overall academic and teaching rankings are achieved; these are combined to give a final college ranking that determines classification and eligibility for an extension course. Those who do not achieve a satisfactory standard in any subject may be employed by the Education Department at a reduced status and salary. To complete their courses while in the field, they must notify the principal of their intention at the beginning of the year; they will then be given the required work to be sent to the college for consideration.
After successful completion of the first two years of the course, they are awarded an actual place on the classified list, according to their achievements in academic work and teaching practice. Subsequent promotion depends on evaluations made of their teaching efficiency by school inspectors; however, they must acquire additional qualifications to advance to senior positions in the teaching service. Each year extended studentships are awarded to a number of students who have qualified for the Trained Primary Teacher Certificate.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Students are medically examined and X-rayed twice: before starting the course and again at the end of the course. These exams determine whether they are fit to teach and whether they are eligible to participate in the state pension system. It is intended to represent a cross-section of the best university ideas in creative writing.
Public telephones for the convenience of students have been installed at the following locations: i) on the porch of the lecture block north of the cafeteria (ii) just inside the main entrance on Faraday Street. Every student is covered under the provisions of the act for injuries sustained or certain illnesses sustained while on duty or while traveling to or before duty. If the disability is considered to be covered by the act, the medical expenses incurred are paid and the days of absence caused are not deducted from the sick leave credits.
A student who is injured while traveling to or from college or on official business must report the accident and/or injury to the General Office. If the injury is of such a nature that medical attention is required, regardless of whether time is lost or not, two additional forms must be submitted. It is the student's responsibility to complete this form with a medical certificate attached to support the statements made therein.
STUDENT ACTIVITIES
A large number of students, accompanied by staff, go on educational trips during the second semester holidays. First-year students visit sites in Victoria chosen for their relevance to college courses; second year students travel interstate and enjoy the benefits of group travel at the lowest prices to major tourist centers throughout Australia. Second- and third-year students can get permission to organize tours of their own chook, if enough students show up for it.
Such tours may be within Victoria, but the first year tour host will have priority on all travel and accommodation bookings. The two main social events of the year are the Welcome Ball in April and the Graduation Ball in November. Other highlights of the year are a welcome concert and a river trip, which are usually held shortly after the college reopens.
One of the unpublicized activities of college students is the volunteer work done to help underprivileged or disabled sections of the community. On Poppy Day virtually every student helps the Returned Servicemen's League by selling poppies on the streets of Melbourne.
