Michael Crane, "Where Did the Cat Go?"

WHERE DID THE CAT GO?
"A three year old boy in an Ottawa suburb
picked up the family cat and spun it around his head
like a turtle-hero wielding a weapon. 'It's just like Michelangelo,' He protested, when his horrified mother intervened.
The cat ran away and didn't return home for two days."
(The Chicago Tribune) Outside the house into the cold wind.
Far away from brightly lit rooms- The smell of Pine 0 Clean and Colgate, Cigarettes, alcohol and mosquito coils.
Soft footsteps on the wet grass.
Headlights piercing the darkness.
Tyres grip the bitumen
And then swerve at the last absolute second.
Across the road and into the park.
The whispering of the breeze above In the weeping willow trees.
The mysterious scent of night and rain.
Sitting alone on the river bank.
Eyes chasing the imaginary tails of waves.
